1968 Mercedes-Benz 250SL Red Leather- 4 Speed

This is one of the nicest examples of the rare Mercedes 250SL. This car was subject to a complete restoration by marque expert Jurgen Klockemann and is spectacular everywhere you look. Of all of the Pagodas, the 250SL is the rarest, with about 5,000 produced over a 14-month span. This particular car is a late production model, #4608, made in October of 1967 for the 1968 model year. Most were made for the European market, only 1,761 250SL's were imported into the US.
Finished in the always desirable color of Silver Grey Metallic, the car displays show quality paint. I'm the picky type, and have spotted only a couple of minor prep flaws on close inspection, otherwise prepare to be impressed. The body is laser straight with excellent sight lines. No orange peel, overspray or tape lines, the car was completely apart for the repaint, then block-sanded and polished to perfection. The car has no chips or scratches, and zero dings anywhere, it's ready for the show field. Shown in detail through the photo gallery are the original spotwelds that you'll want to see when considering any Pagoda for purchase.
Tires are quality Michelins with excellent tread, all 4 wheelcovers are perfect.
Lights, signals and lenses are all in beautiful condition. The car displays both fender notches as well as the factory correct spot welds along the inner fenders, assuring their originality.
Correct locking gas cap and exhaust extensions. Both bumpers front and rear are outstanding. All of the car's brightwork is exceptional with no trace of pitting. The soft top cover lid is free of dents or damage.
High quality replacement Sonnenland top from GAHH with all new weatherstripping. Restored hardtop with excellent glass, weatherstripping and chrome. The headliner is in perfect condition with no flaws.
All of the glass on the car is in excellent shape, although the windshield has picked up a few small chips, visible in the photos below.
Its trunk is rust-free and solid, with the original mat and spare tire cover. The original jacking equipment, toolkit, manuals, 3 complete key sets and service receipts are all included with the car and its sale.
The interior can only be described as stunning; with perfect leather upholstery, beautifully fitted carpeting, and as-new sill plates and anodized trim edging. It also has all new weatherstripping throughout the car, every piece.
All gauges and controls are working, even the clock. The 3-band Blaupunkt radio works and all four of the heating and ventilation sliders move freely. Both sunvisors are in excellent condition. The dashpad and wood are both outstanding. It has the original Kangol seatbelts. Clean and crisp rear parcel shelf.
A factory 280SL short block was fitted during the restoration, offering increased horsepower, torque and improved acceleration. This car runs and drives excellent, moving down the road straight and square with an excellent suspension, spot-on throttle response and smooth shifting and braking. There is very nice attention to detail throughout the engine bay and undercarriage. Highly detailed undercarriage with all new exhaust, suspension, braking and fuel system components.
This 250SL is part of one of the best collections of Mercedes in North America. We are selling this as a favor to our friend, who is the owner. It is part of his world renowned Mercedes collection which consists of about ten Pagodas. It is available for inspection in Phoenix, Arizona.
