1971 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

You are bidding on a 1971 Mercedes Benz 280 SEL 4 door sedan, selling at no reserve. It is a three-owner car, lastly owned by my Dad, who obtained it from the widow of the second owner in early 1992. The car has been driven 143,000 miles from new, and is all-original and complete, save one re-paint. Beautiful Chestnut Brown with orange leather interior.

It was at rest in my Dad’s warehouse in Meridian, Mississippi for the past twenty-five years, except for a short period 14 years ago when I exhumed it and had it running and shifting perfectly – professionally tuned, timed, oil and all filters and hoses replaced. It ran like a Dalmatian chasing a fire truck. After my parents passed away, the car sat untouched without moving an inch. Although the engine turns over at ignition, the mechanical injector pump is currently inoperative, failing from disuse. Thus, it is a non-runner at the present time. I hauled it here to Denton, Texas and am offering it for sale to the highest bidder.

This gas-powered 280SEL, with the 2.7 liter 160 HP inline six cylinder engine, is unusual in that it is a four-speed stick, with factory air conditioning and moonroof. When I resurrected the car in 2002, all electrical and brake components were inspected and faulty hoses and bulbs were replaced. Air conditioner blew cold air. There is rust in the usual places – under front and rear bumpers, in trunk and along rocker panels. Front floor panels under carpet are pristine.
