Description:

1965 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series

1965 Mercedes-Benz 300SE Prototype Floor Shift RHD Cabriolet

A true barn find we discovered this Cabriolet with the LHD conversion in progress.

As this Cabriolet should retain the RHD configuration we acquired and will include in the sale a RHD w111 Coupe Parts Car

This particular example is historically significant as it is the documented prototype for the Floor Shift Automatic Transmission. As documented by the Produktions-Auftrag Chassis Number 112.023-22-007544 was delivered to Mercedes-Benz London as a test vehicle for the floor shift transmission. The factory team including former head of vehicle development and creator of the 300 SLR engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut specified that this vehicle would include components for column shift as well as the floor shift prototype components. Interestingly the Produktions-Auftrag directs MB London to test the vehicle for no more than 200 Kilometers and then return the Cabriolet to the factory for retail customer preparation.

Only 708 300se Cabriolets Produced in Total

Without a doubt this 300se is a worthwhile historically significant Cabriolet suitable for a Concours restoration.

It certainly is one of the rarest and most desirable w112 300se Cabriolets in existence!
