Auctioning a classic 1983 Mercedes Benz 380-SL Roadster originally owned by film & television actress Phyllis Coates, ho portrayed reporter Lois Lane in the 1951 feature film, Superman and the Mole Men," as well as the first twenty-six episodes of the 1950's television series, Adventures of Superman," with actor, eorge Reeves.

Coates, ho was a very popular lead in B features at that time, eceived equal billing with Reeves (upon his insistence) in the television series, nd was noted for creating a sharp, trong-willed Lois Lane, he enterprising female reporter who tries to out-scoop her male rival, lark Kent.Coate's powerful "damsel in distress" scream was noted by producers and used to very good effect in several episodes!

Ms. Coates, ho drove this luxury sports car while living in Los Angeles, ad her vehicle custom-painted the same color as the Superman costume her co-star, eorge Reeves, ore in the cerebrated television series which was filmed in black & white during the first two seasons. Reeve's costume, hich was actually brown and grey, as changed to blue and red when the series began filming in color during the third season.

Ms. Coates, ho remained close friends with Reeves until to his untimely death in 1959, dmitted to friends that she chose the color as a private tribute to her "Superman" costar, ith whom she was scheduled to make several films through Reeve's own production company before he died suddenly under mysterious circumstances.

Ms. Coates, ho continued making films and appearing on television after she left the Superman series, as one of Hollywood's most consistently employed actresses during the '50s and '60s; appearing in numerous low-budget feature films as well as serials and a steady stream of TV appearances, oth as a series regular and as a guest star.

By the mid '60s, he had settled into a comfortable semi-retirement after her marriage to a Los Angeles physician and her television appearances became increasingly infrequent.

Coates permanently retired from acting shortly after appearing as Lois Lane's mother in the first season finale of the 1990s television series, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

In 2008, oates sold her beloved Mercedes 380-SL roaster to fellow actor and friend, art Williams, ho used it occasionally while living in Bullhead City, Z. Williams passed away last June and the vehicle became part of his estate.
