1986 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

Beautiful and elegant 1986 Mercedes 560sl in desirable nautical color combination. White exterior, lue top and interior. The car starts and runs great, o noticeable smoke or leaks. Shifts fine. Feels absolutely great, t is a blast to drive. It has brand new Dunlop Tires.I have spent several thousands getting this car to this condition. Yes, very one of these cars needs work, nd this was no exception. I bought it at a bargain price of $6500, hen double the cost improving the car.It has an old paint job, ooks fine and retains gloss, nd light colors are very forgiving. I was planning on having it painted when I bought a 500SL AMG (at a much higher price), hich happens to be white as well, hus the decision to sell the 560SL at a loss. This car is sold as is, here is. It is a 30 year old vintage car in great condition, ut not new and far from a perfect showroom car. Probably better than many of the cars you see advertised here as perfect or completely restored...My recommendation: Come in person and drive it and you will fall in love with it. The other option, f you are far away, ire an inspection company to come to my house and give you an unbiased report. Please do not ask me if the car will travel with no problem across the US. I personally would not hesitate to take it anywhere, ut even a brand new car can break, ven more a vintage car. Please scroll down and watch all the pictures and comments.
The R107 were required in the US to have US bumpers which looked very bad. The European bumpers are a very desirable upgrade option, nd every so often you will see them here for sale. A pair of bumpers requiring restoration cost $1400 to $2000. Mint units are rarely found and people ask a fortune for them. I bought the bumpers and brackets and had them installed, t a cost of over $2500.
I have the original bumpers in very good condition, nd the buyer is welcome to have them.
Here is a couple of picture of the car prior to swapping the bumpers:
I had a new convertible top installed at over $900. The original had foggy plastic windows, hich is common in all these cars.
Then I applied a special water proofing treatment that repels the water and protects them from UV rays and makes them last much longer.
Then the car received new wood trim, mported from Germany, t over $700. These pieces are not available anywhere else, nd there are no vinyl wood imitation kits for the R107.
The seats were restored with German material similar to the MB-Tex, t a cost over $700.
The door panels are in perfect condition:
The dashboard has some cracks, very common thing to all these cars. The previous owner installed the oem looking dash skin, ooks very good and it glued to the original dash.
I purchased a steering wheel from an older SL, 985. The airbags expire, nd after 30 years it is useless to have it in please. I installed the better looking wheel, hich also has an advantage:It gives you a few inches of room, s the one with the airbag sticks out more.
The original steering wheel and airbag are included:
The original Becker Grand Prix works, hich is pretty rare. The electric antenna is not working.
All instruments seem to be in good working order:
There is a small ding on the grille upper left side:
I bought and installed the original Daimler Benz decal for the windshield:
