If there’s a nicer Miata out there, we sure have yet to see it. This gorgeous “Black & Tan” Edition Miata is a very special car. Not only is it one of just 4,625 “Black & Tan” Edition Miatas, it’s original down to the tires. Now 25 years old, this Miata presents in absolutely outstanding condition; it looks, feels, and drives every bit as nicely as it did in 1992. The backstory on the car is this: The car was won through a raffle/giveaway from Crown Mazda of Holland, Michigan. The gentleman who had won the car had no need for it, so after letting it sit in his garage for a few years he decided to pass the car along to an employee of his, Bob. Bob was enthusiastic about the car and kept it in his garage as a summer driver. Bob held onto the car until 2004, when his sister showed interest in the car. He then signed the car over to her, and she maintained stewardship of the car until we purchased it earlier this year. In her possession, much like Bob’s, the car was always garaged and only driven on the occasional summer day. While the car has technically had two owners, it has remained in one family since first being registered in 1996. The car will come with all manuals and warranty booklets, receipts for fluid changes and a battery (the entirety of the car’s service history), in addition to two sets of keys and the original window sticker. This car did not come from the factory with a hardtop, just the tan vinyl roof. Exterior: Please take a good look through the photos, as the car is documented in detail. The condition of the car is just stunning. There are absolutely no dings, scratches, or chips. Even the lowest points of the front end “mouth” are free of any chipping. There are no spots that have touched up either; Brilliant Black paint is unmolested and blemish-free. Tan vinyl top is in as-new condition. It’s very clear that this car has been babied since new and driven with utmost care. Interior: Black paint over tan leather is an excellent combo. Much like the exterior, the interior is MINT. Really the only spot in the interior that isn’t in as-new condition is a tiny spot on the outer lower back of the driver seat, where there is a small spot with a slight fade. It is not a tear or scrape. This car was well-optioned with the G9 package, which consists of headrest speakers, cruise control, power antenna, stainless scuff plate, a Nardi wood shift knob, wood handbrake lever, and BBS alloy wheels with locks. The car was also optioned with air conditioning (which blows cold) and Miata-branded floor mats. The car has power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio with cassette and anti-theft coding. Mechanical: There are just 6899 miles on this lovely Miata. We have absolutely no concerns regarding this car; original tires aren’t dry in the slightest and still have 9/32” tread depth remaining (11/32” is new). The only services the car has seen throughout its sub-7k miles is a new battery and an oil change, which we have the receipts for. Please take a good look through the underbody and underhood photos, the car is truly in unbelievable condition. There are still the factory stickers on the large majority of mechanical components both underneath the car and under the hood. The car starts right up without fault, and to be honest, feels new in every respect. While the 1.6L DOHC 16 valve inline 4-cylinder isn't known for its tremendous power output (114hp), the car’s short-throw 5-speed, 4 wheel power disc brakes with vented front rotors, limited slip differential, and sport-tuned stainless exhaust make it extremely fun to drive. Everybody knows it’s most fun to drive a slow car fast, and the Miata is the perfect example of that. The suspension-focused design of the Miata offers a uniquely visceral and engaging driving experience. This particular Miata truly is as nice as they come. The first generation Miata is a surefire future-classic and, while this one is near the top of the market, it represents a wise (and phenomenally fun) long-term investment. Miata enthusiasts, there aren’t many left out there quite like this one! Please feel free to reach out to Jake at with any further questions.
