In 1969 Maserati launched the Ghibli SS, sportier version of its flagship coupe with the dry-sump 90* V8 now enlarged to 4.9 liters. Prodigious braking performance came from the two twin-servo assisted ventilated discs with three pistons per caliper. This transformed the Ghibli SS into the fastest and strongest preforming Maserati road car in production.
#2122 is a fantastic example of Maserati's famed Ghibli 4.9 Liter SS Coupe, ompleted in May of 1971 by Officine A. Maserati S.p.A., earing Russo Fuoco (red) paint over Bianco (white) Connoly leather with comforts worthy of such a thoroughbred GT: adjustable steering column, nti-theft steering lock, inted & electric windows, eclining seats with head rests, eated rear windscreen, ashboard clock, ecker Mexico radio (later fitted with a Blaupunkt) and factory air conditioning. Long excursions are intended to be comfortable thanks to power steering and plenty of power on reserve from the 4.9 liter V8 motor. Maserati S.p.A. of Modena confirms with original Certificate of Origin that all chassis, ngine, ransmission and body numbers are matching as it left the factory. Additional Classiche documents include: Final Tests data Sheet, echnical & Aesthetic Characteristics, nd of Line Data Sheet and Delivery Note.
The SS was originally purchased by Pittsburgh shipping magnate John Fuery. According to a history report in the cars file Fuery used the car as an occasional driver, ccumulating just 5,900 miles before selling it in August of 1987 to Eldo and Betty Bisacca of McKeesport, A. Eldo also sparingly drove the Maserati over the following 13 years, ntil his passing in 2000. The car remained under the Family's ownership with Betty in storage, nd it wasn't until 2014, ollowing her death that the car was discovered in her dry but much cluttered garage. A PA annual registration sticker dated 11/85 was removed and laminated. The sticker indicates on the reverse side that the car had 5,876 miles on 4-30-85. During Eldo and Betty's ownership the car received one repaint over the original paint while the interior is original and displays an attractive patina. There is also a signed odometer disclosure from June 25, 014 stating 9,246 original miles.
Upon discovery in 2014 the car was purchased by a respected collector/dealer from Arizona and he subsequently sold us the car right after his purchase. During our ownership an extensive engine out major service and detail encompassing the entire vehicle has been performed. This particular SS exceeds all expectations behind the wheel, ith a pleasurable driving experience.
Service Performed included: a complete engine out major service, oth heads were removed and machined with new valves, prings and seals, ater pump rebuilt and equipped with new driving gear, he motor was then completely resealed, ebuild carburetors on top, ebuilt radiator, ew spark plugs and wires. New thermostat, rive belts, oses and correct jubilee clamps, long with all finishes and decals. Before the engine was reintroduced, ts bay was steam cleaned and the radiator support restored to new. All electrical components and lights are in correct working order, ncluding new window motors and brass gears replacing the plastic originals. ODD Parts then completely refurbished the entire column switch assembly with a lifetime warranty. Lastly, he air conditioning system was recharged to a cold blowing and fully functioning system.
With just under 9,500 miles showing, his U.S. spec coupe makes for an exceptionally solid base to drive and enjoy in original form and with the desirable manual transmission configuration. It remains a stunningly honest preservation, ith just one exterior repaint from new, hile retaining all factory upholstery, rim, xterior rubbers, ecurit glass, indshield with Agip decal, dentification plaques, riginal undercoating, otor, rivetrain.. the list goes on.
Designed to compete with the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Muira, he Ghibli is among the elite in the vintage supercar market and tremendously underpriced in comparison. This particular SS checks all the boxes and is sure to satisfy the true driver-collector connoisseur and complete with original tool kit, ack and emergency equipment in case, anual, arts catalog, aintenance manual and original documentation. Representing incredible value, e strongly recommend serious attention from collectors and enthusiast alike.
