1971 Lotus Elan ConvertibleFrame off restoration, all numbersmatching in Lotus Yellow.

By 1971, the Lotus Elan S4 was not only one of the fastest and best handling small sports cars imported into the United States but many considered it one of the best looking. It’s aerodynamic smooth lines, hidden headlights and rakish windshield earned respect from just about every car magazine and car reviewer. This is to say nothing of the fact that this car would basically run with and in many cases out run Corvettes of the day with its 0-60 time at 7.1 seconds. We have heard owners say that the car handles like a roller skate and when you go to make a 90 degree turn at 30 mph you just make the turn without bothering to take your foot off the accelerator.

As you can see from the photos in this eBay auction and also the many photos in the Youtube video, the current owner has taken this car and restored to the nth degree! The car is painted Lotus Yellow, one of the most popular Lotus colors of the 1971 series. The attention to detail in the restoration can easily be seen by viewing the photos. The seller emphasized that he restored the car to original factory specifications. Example it still has a generator. Wheels are the original knock off chrome plated cast wheels. The original twin cam engine was completely rebuilt. Power windows (the buttons are on dashboard).

If you are planning to bid on this Lotus we recommend that you Google 1971 Lotus Elan S4 reviews/reports of the day and Lotus Founder Colin Chapman principals for building these cars. It is very informative reading.

While the private seller has directed us not to reveal the reserve, we can tell you in our opinion at MissChiTown, a marketing arm for car collectors who want their cars on eBay, that somebody will be getting a very gorgeous restored car that has a very competitive reserve price with unrestored Elans.

The Lotus was known back then for its 4th gear that could pull from 17 mph all the way to a cruising speed of 100 mph. It is all independent suspension that would smooth out cobblestone and give it an uncanny stickability on turn. The car was also known for the fact that it was a fantastic car to use in a city like New York because it handled so well, was so easy to park and yet on the highway at speeds that were well above the speed limit it would go straight as an arrow and provide a super secure ride.

Today it seems that all serious car collectors are wanting post war foreign sports car that are super rare and great looking. The Lotus Elan S4 is certainly a car that has been and will continue to appreciate into the future. We just love this car in the Lotus Yellow.

Again, we would like you to take a close look at the restoration of this car, especially the underside of the car that shows that this could be a show car that could and would take a 1st or 2nd prize at any serious car show. This is a car that you can bid to win and be happy that you did!
