Beautiful, low mile 1929 Lincoln Model L 162A Town Car with only 47,000 original miles! Representing one of only 74 built for 1929, and complete with all original rear passenger compartment upholstery! Wonderfully equipped with options, remarkably solid, and one that continues to run equally well on the road! Wonderful collector piece and CCCA Full Classic! Having launched Cadillac's reputation as the "Standard of the World", founder Henry Leland's would leave the company as a result of a dispute with... William Durant, founder of General Motors Holdings, and open the Lincoln Motor Company. His engineering expertise turned to building powerful Liberty aircraft engines for the World War I effort. He was already considered "a master of precision" and returned his attention to building his own superbly engineered Lincoln automobile in 1920! Beginning in 1921, his powerful, reliable, and strong vehicles would set another benchmark for competition to adhere to. Sadly, his determination wasn't enough, and financial struggles forced the sale of Lincoln's engineering designs to none other than Henry Ford in 1922 to better balance his entry level Model T with something far more elegant. Henry's expertise in manufacturing, along with the engineering vision provided by Leland, Lincoln Motor Company continued as a formidable luxury car manufacture with some of the best built & engineered automobiles America had to offer! Unfortunately, Leland would depart after only a short 4 months at the helm leaving Edsel Ford to resume the focus of the new brand. The original Lincoln L-Series was produced from 1921-1930, with changes along the way to enrich both engine performance and ride qualities. By 1927, Ford engineers had enhanced the power plant with aluminum pistons to save weight, improve cooling with revised heads, added additional internal oil pressure, increased the amount of hood louvers from 28 to 42, added rubber engine mounts to decrease vibration to the chassis, and better braking with 4-wheel mechanical drum brakes. Larger displacement V8 engines followed in 1928 growing from 358ci to 385ci . Multiple coach builders provided body options, with some 26 choices offered in the Lincoln catalog. Of those, 14 body styles were considered semi-custom requiring special order through Lincoln dealerships. Offered here is a beautiful semi-custom, special ordered 1929 Lincoln Model L All-weather Non-collapsible Cabriolet Town Car by LeBaron, Model Style 162-A, Body #1267. It represents one of only 74 produced in 1929 making it likely one of only a handful that may remain today. The body is perfectly solid with excellent door fitment and structure, finished in a beautiful Dark Green with Black fenders and trim. The impressive lines with upright windshield and blind rear quarter compartment are quite elegant as LeBaron was known for. This example represents a late year production with the slightly shorter front fenders providing narrower hood sills with wide splash shields, and longer splash aprons. The longer apron allowed for a tool compartment to be added at the forward portion of the left hand side. Under the hood lies its original 384.8ci V8 with factory stamping matching the chassis number (#60057). With its factory, single updraft Stromberg carburetor remaining finely tuned, it provides the driver a modest 90 factory horsepower, shifted through a 3-speed manual transmission and 4.58:1 rear axle ratio. At an original MSRP cost in 1929 at over $7,000, these were exceptionally expensive vehicles available only to the most discerning buyers! Additional features include 20" wire spoke wheels wrapped in black wall 7.00-20 The Lester Tire Co tires, dual side-mounted spares with covers, rear folding luggage rack with optional trunk, dual cowl lights, rear passenger jump seats for 7-passenger seating, custom inlayed wood smoking requisites with stainless steel ashtrays & electric lighter, cabin buzzer system, partition glass window, floor heater, rear reading lamps with overhead dome light, black leather-clad chauffer's compartment with removable canopy & roll-up windows, vacuum windshield wiper, wood steering wheel, padded faux rear cabriolet top with decorative landau irons, Oo-ga horn, and more! This gorgeous example survives with what appears to be an all-original rear passenger compartment upholstery & trim, foot wedges, and all window shades! A remarkably kept Town Car that shows just 47,264 miles on the odometer! It has been professionally restored cosmetically to include all new exterior paint, vinyl top and canopy many years go. In July 2019, new leather trim was installed in the driver's compartment to include seating surfaces, door panels, and kick panels to replace the original leathers for the first time! The Stewart vacuum fuel system is still in service along with the Delco 6-volt generator charging system. It starts very easily, and rides the road with astonishing performance and comfort!
