1981 Land Rover 109 Santana - With Overdrive

Price: - Item location: Richmond, Virginia, United States
Description:

1981 Land Rover Defender

From Jaen, pain. Limestone-colored, ix-seater Series-III. 2.25L Diesel mated to a four-speed transmission with Overdrive. About 80,000 original miles. No rust. Incredibly solid, ery original truck suggested to us by our mechanic, om-the-German, ho maintained this truck for the seller for a number of years. The exterior is un-restored but very straight. No noticeable or significant dents or dings. The “Limestone” paint is all original, nd flat, nd it has the side stripes that were standard in the 1980’s. It also has a bull bar on the front and the small surrounds around the headlamps have been painted black. Another great candidate for a driving restoration, ut it’s affordable and rust and free and mechanically perfect, o it would be a great “adventure vehicle” too.

Interior: The front seats have been reupholstered in fabric, ith the bolster torn where the driver rubs against it (thigh) to get into the vehicle. The re-upholstery was done with a bit too much fabric, hallenging the driver not to rub against the fabric when entering. The second row seats are original and in good shape. This vehicle does not have opposing rear seats. Gauges all work properly and the truck has heat as well. Windows roll easily, oors lock properly, tc.
Exterior: The paint is tired but original, nd has a nice patina for the truck. Very few scratches and dents, eaving a very nice canvas for a fresh coat of paint if the new owner desires. I've tried to provide a bunch of underside photos; I realize it's dirty (it's supposed to be, fter all) but the vehicle is wonderfully straight and rust-free.
Drivetrain: Strong and solid. Low range engages without issue and pulls the truck up some steep wet inclines easily (I can attest to this). Truck fires up with the glow plugs held for a few moments; a younger battery might help, s the vehicle comes from a part of Spain that rarely dips below 45 degrees and I've been starting it here in Virginia on mornings below freezing. The Normal vs. Superdirecta knob engages the overdrive, dding a nice little bump to cruising speeds. The vehicle does come with a fifth wheel, urrently located in the back.
