1972 Land Rover Santana 88 (Series IIA)
ACTUAL VIN# E50111330
NOTE: THIS VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN DENIA, SPAIN, but I ship tothe USA. Please check my feedback, and please read the entire listing before bidding.
I am an American, living in Spain, and I sell and export vehicles to the USA regularly. Although shipping costs are not included in the price of the sale, I work every month with an established worldwide shipper and will work directly with the buyer to arrange delivery to the USA. I will drop the vehicle off at the port of Valencia for you at no additional cost, prepare all the proper documentation for shipping to the USA, and handle all the US customs and importation on the USA side.
If you would like me to handle the shipping, customs paperwork, and everything for you, the cost is a flat-rate of $1900, port-to-port, to your choice of New York, Baltimore, MD, Jacksonville, FL or Freeport (Galveston), TX. No additional costs. No work on your part. You just pick the car up from the port, fully cleared and released.
Once the vehicle is in your possession, you will also have all the documents you need to register the car in any of 49 states. (California excepted.) I can even arrange transportation within the USA, from the port to your driveway. In short, I am here to help with every step of the process of delivering this vehicle to you.
You are of course welcome to fly here and test the car for yourself before you bid, but if that is not feasible, I will be happy to take additional photos, videos, etc. and send them to you. Whatever you need. We can speak on the telephone, or by Skype, so you can see the vehicle in real time before you bid.
If you have any questions, please ask and I will post as many answers here as possible.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

This one's a character. It has a little attitude. Unrestored, but never damaged and always maintained in some of the driest regions of Spain, it is a structurally rust free 88 with an unusual color combination and the kind of patina that only comes from a lifetime of legitimate use.

The chassis is entirely free of structural rust, with no perforation or cancer anywhere, and only surface oxidation showing here and there. Longitudinals and cross members are free from dents and scrapes, indicative of mostly road use, and with no signs of serious off roading in its past. The paint, originally Sage Green, has been changed to a brighter, more pistachio color, and the hart top and wheels have been flat blacked. The bodywork, never badly damaged, nevertheless has never been restored either, and virtually every panel bears the mild nicks, dings and scratches that all aluminum panels accrue over time. The resulting look, particularly with slightly oversized off road tires, is "vintage aggressive." It's a period-correct bad boy's 88.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

Few vehicles are as cool to drive as a Series IIA Land Rover, particularly with the roof off and the windshield folded down, so that's immediately what we did with this one.

Warm the glow plugs for a bit and the engine fires willingly, with no undue nose and only the slightest puff of (normal) smoke which goes away immediately and never returns. The Rover diesel, a legend all over the world, is plucky and willing and makes up in responsive torque what it lacks in outright power. With the notchy four-speed feeling like new, this 88 gets through the gears wonderfully, and keeps up with modern traffic on anything but the superhighways of the world.

The clutch takes up perfectly and feels stiff and strong, and the brakes are powerful with great pedal feel. Steering is light for an 88, and all electrics work as intended. Doors and latches shut beautifully, and all in all, it's a wonderful driving example of what many people consider to the best years of the "Series" Land Rover.
