Originally a 258 6 cyl fuel injected straight 6

Originally an automatic trans w/ overdrive

Originally a 2 speed Hi Lo transfer case

Currently this vehicle has received a very nice transformation into a nicely designed powerhouse

The frame is the original CJ-7 with very nice upgrades from the YJ-7 of 1986. The rear tub, a solid unit fro the YJ-7, the front still retains the older style CJ-7 sheet metal. True to the "purist" of style and taste. Slight modifications for mounting the body is all that was required.

All of the electrical retained in 1986 CJ. The original dash has been upgraded to a more modern digital "intellitronix gauge package" . It has the matching fiberglass hard top with the lift up rear window. The body has the newer swing out tailgate with spare tire holder. Also included is the older style lay-down tailgate which wouldn't take much effort to convert. Your choice. Also included are hard doors with mirrors and soft doors, newer front seats and an older folding rear seat.

Now the good part: The running gear.

Power-train installed, the chassis had Dana rears front and back. Front is Dana 30 with lockable hubs for 4x4, rear drive has been upgraded to Dana as well. New brakes and hardware was done a while back it is in good shape, but has been sitting for a while.Just installed front calipers, rear wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Fresh fluid and fittings. All brake lines are either braided or hard line stainless, very nice. Front sway bar and power steering installed with fresh hoses and bushings. There are 2 sets of wheels and tires. Smaller more normal all season Continental 235-75-15 AP. Also included is a nice off road set of Firestone Destination AT 31-10.50-15. Both sets mounted on American Racing Forged aluminum rims.

We're not done yet:

Power Plant system consists of a modern fuel efficient Chevrolet 4.3 L Vortec V-6 w/upgraded multi-port fuel injection. All computer driven.A very nice wiring harness to plug and play. All connections tagged. Harness is by Street & Performance Products made specifically for this application. A costly investment, but well worth it. Somewhere in the $1500 range.The engine also has Sanderson Custom Headers for 2.5" exhaust. Thepower plant is coupled to a sturdy GM4L60E automatic w/ overdrive transmission. Rated at 8600 lb GVWR. The transmission is locked into the original Dana 300 transfer case with the upgraded "Twin Stick" 2 Hi Lo and 4 Hi Lo range. This conversion is made possible by Novak Industries Adapter which consisted of the adapter housing output shaft Speedo sensors gaskets seals and mounting hardware. All somewhere in the $2000 range.

All in all a very nice swap with a fuel efficient and very reliable drive-train when all is completed. A 21 gal fuel tank with skid pate installed w 2 electrical pumps, apx 65 PSI.

Now the bad news:

I have suffered some physical limitations in my older years and can't complete the project. It breaks my heart but that's life as we know it. The hard part is done, a little time to button up is a all she needs. It does run, but not quite road worthy yet. A few Gremlins need to be sorted out yet, of course.
