Up for auction is an incredibly well preserved and original 1974 Jeep CJ5. This Jeep is in all original, unmolested condition with just 41,828 actual original miles. This CJ5 has remained in one family itsentire life. It was built in August 1973 and sold new at Thoroughbred Datsun ofColorado Springs, Colorado in early 1974. The Jeepremained in Colorado for most of its life, spending over 25 years on a cattle ranch outside of Colorado Springs. The Jeep was later brought to North Idaho where it has remained for the last 10+ years.
The interior of this CJ5 is very nice and complete. The dash is very nice with minimal wear. The factory speedometer is in greatshape and all of the indicator lights are working.Auxiliary voltage and oil pressuregauges have been added for more accurate readings. Theoriginal glovebox liner is intact. The turn signals are functional. The originalsteering wheel is very nice with just a few cracks around the center hub. The carpets are in greatshape despite their age and show very minimal wear. Theoriginal seat belts are intact. The original rubber clutch and brake pedals show virtually zero wear. All of the floor pans are in excellent shapeincluding thestorage box beneath thepassenger seat. Best Top seat covers have been added over theoriginalupholstery. Thefactorypassenger seat cover is very nice aside from a separation on theouter seat bottom piping. The factory driver's seat cover will need to be replaced as it is deteriorated. The blower motor and heat are working.
The exterior of this Jeep showsincredibly well. The body is very straight with mostly original paint. This CJ5 does have its fair share of small bumps and bruises, typical of an original CJ5 of the era. Sometime in the mid 1980s the Jeep had bumped into a cattle fence while on the cattle ranch.Because of this, thepassenger fender was replaced and repainted. The passenger rear corner of the Jeep where thefactory spare tire carrier was mounted does have a skim coat ofbondo from a dent sustainedsometime in the 1980s as well. Theoriginal carrier will be included. Theoriginal paint has a very nice shine and just a few areas of paint touch up from chips, etc. The body has very minimal rust asshown in the photos. A brand new Best Top soft top and doors have just been installed and a bikini top will also be included. Theundercarriage is all very dry and solid with only minorsurface rust on the frame and suspension components. Manyfactory chalk markingsremain underneath the truck and under the hood.Factory Jeep/AMC decalsremain on the Jeep as well.
This CJ5 runs well with tons of torque. The big 258 cubic inch 6 cylinder is healthy and the factory 3 speed transmission shifts as it should. The clutch engages with optimal travel. The transfer case engages in all positions and the hubs lock as they should. Power steering has been added to this CJ5, making it much easier to drive and maneuver at low speeds. A brand new radiator, water pump, shocks andsteering stabilizer have also been installed. All 4 original steel wheels mounted on vintage studded Michelin tires will be included with the sale.
