Description:

1982 Jeep CJ CJ5 AMC 360 V8

Here we have a very nice, unrestored Texas CJ5 for sale. Paint color is Orient Red. The clear coat on the exterior is long gone but remains on most of the interior paint. There is one minor dent on the right rear corner and any rust is shallow and inactive. The title history shows that it has been in the drier parts of Texas since it was new. Probably one of the cleanest original CJ5's you'll find. How often do you see a CJ with all the original sheet metal and none of it needs replaced?
You can see in the pictures that in the front passenger footwell there is an irregular shaped hole cut in the side of the tub that is covered by the diamondplate side guard. I don't know the story behind it but I felt I should point it out.
The original 258 6 cylinder was losing power/compression so I put in a 360 from a '78 Jeep Truck. Mileage on the engine is unknown but it doesn't smoke, knock or leak and runs like a top. She gets up and goes pretty good but it is a stock late 70's V8 so it's plenty controllable. Carburetor is Motorcraft 2150 - 2 bbl. I have driven it approximately 400 miles since the swap and it goes highway speeds with minimal effort. The 304 V8 was an option until '81 and the 360 has the same dimensions. It bolted to the original T-176 4 speed transmission with no adapter needed and no frame modification required.
Has the desirable FACTORY TILT STEERING. Has Power Steering and Power Brakes. I installed a Retrosound radio with aux port in the factory slot wired to 4 kicker speakers. Has the full compliment of Tuffy locking storage. Glove box, center console and rear fender/speaker storage boxes, all with keys. I installed a JB Fabrications twin stick shifter on the Dana 300 transfer case. The 4WD works like it should. It has the original Dana 30 front and AMC 20 rear axle.
I spent a lot of time making sure that all the little things are fixed. A couple of the gauges aren't quite accurate but the only thing that truly doesn't work is the factory clock. Other than that, if it's supposed to light up or turn on you can bet that it does. There is a reproduction speedometer cluster installed. The original one works fine and is included. It just passed Texas inspection and registration is current. Title is clean and it is in my name.
The radiator is a champion 2-core with the 1" wide tubes. The exhaust is factory type manifolds with 2.5" flex-pipe, true dual exhaust with walker convertors and mufflers (no tailpipes). There aren't any custom exhaust shops within 3 hours of my house so I had to improvise. Probably something you will want to plan on having done.
There are a SUBSTANTIAL amount of new parts on this jeep. I can provide a list on request.
It comes with a very good condition complete Bestop soft top with soft doors. Also includes a Bestop bikini top and a vintage Acme hard top that is in decent shape but needs some TLC if you want to run with it.
The 5 tires have good tread but are starting to weather crack. It has a swing out tire carrier with 2 jerry cans, rear trailer hitch and front fold-down tow bumper.
Feel free to ask any questions or request pics of any specific areas.
