Description:

1979 Jeep Cherokee NO RESERVE FACTORY A/C 4SPEED CHIEF!!

NORESERVE!! 7 DAY AUCTION ENDS @ 6:45PST AUGUST 3RD THIS 1979 JEEP CHEROKEE CHIEF 4X4 IS A GREAT START TO A PROJECT TRUCK THAT CAN BE A RESTORE IT AS YOU DRIVE IT TYPE BUDGET BUILD OR IS AN EXCELLENT CANDIDATE FOR A FULL ON BUILD OR RESTORATION. THIS TRUCK FIRES RIGHT UP, RUNS, DRIVES, IS VERY COMPLETE AND ORIGINAL. IT IS A HARD TO FIND AND NICELY OPTIONED JEEP CHEROKEE CHIEF TWO DOOR WITH THE 4-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING! WE BOUGHT THIS CHIEF OVER TWO YEARS AGO AND WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT IT WE WENT THROUGH IT AND REPLACED A BUNCH OF ITEMS UNDER THE HOOD TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD BE A GOOD RUNNER FOR US AND ALWAYS FIRE UP. IN THOSE TWO YEARS IT HAS DONE THAT FOR US AND ALWAYS FIRED UP NO MATTER IF IT WAS 2 MONTHS OR 2 DAYS OF SITTING. AFTER WE BOUGHT IT WE PUT A NEW BATTERY, STARTER SOLENOID, REBUILT CARBURETOR, FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, NEW DISTRIBUTOR, WIRES, CAB, PLUGS AND IGNITION CONTROL MODULE. EVEN THOUGH WE HAD PLENTY OF WORK IN FRONT OF US AND ENOUGH 60-70'S PROJECT RIGS WE HAD TO HAVE THIS ONE WHEN WE CAME ACROSS IT SINCE THE TWO DOOR CHIEFS ARE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ESPECIALLY WITH THE MANUAL TRANS AND FACTORY A/C. WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THIS TRUCK WE FIGURED WE WOULD HAVE TO STORE IT A YEAR BEFORE WE GOT TO IT, WHICH IS WHY WE DID ALL THE INITIAL WORK AND REPLACEMENT PARTS BECAUSE WE STILL MOVE IT AROUND AND DIDN'T WANT ANYTHING TO FAIL ON IT IN THAT TIME. WE ALWAYS KEEP GOOD BATTERIES, GOOD PARTS, FRESH FUEL IN OUR PROJECT TRUCKS AND RUN AND DRIVE THEM AT LEAST EVERY TWO WEEKS TO KEEP THE BLOOD PUMPING AND THE PARTS WORKING. OUR PLAN WAS NOT A FULL RESTORATION, BUT TO JUST REPLACE ANYTHING NEEDED MECHANICALLY, FIX ANY RUST OR BODY ISSUES, CLEAN UP THE INTERIOR WITH SOME NEW PARTS, 4" LIFT, 35'S, CUSTOM BUMPERS AND GO TO THE WHITE AND BLACK CHIEF COLOR COMBO, BUT WITH THE PAST TWO YEARS THAT FLEW BY AND IT NOT LOOKING LIKE WE WILL GET TO THIS AND NUMBER OF OTHER VEHICLES SOON WE HAVE DECIDED TO SELL OFF A FEW TRUCKS TO THIN THE TO DO LIST A LITTLE. WE HAVE DECIDED TO LIST IT AT NO RESERVE LIKE WE DO ON ALMOST ALL OF OUR AUCTIONS AND LET THE NEXT OWNER GIVE THIS TRUCK THE LOVE IT DESERVES AND TAKE IT DOWN THE ROAD OF WHAT THIS TRUCK SHOULD BE. PLEASE CHECK OUT THE 100 DETAILED PICS AND THE VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM OF THE AD! AS YOU CAN TELL BY OUR NAME OR OUR PAST AUCTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THAT WE ARE ALWAYS ON THE HUNT FOR ODD BALLS, CLEAN CLASSIC ORIGINAL SURVIVORS AND CLASSIC TRUCKS, SO THIS VAN BEING THE PERFECT COMBO OFF ALL I HAD TO HAVE IT. THAT OF COURSE IS ALSO MY DOWN FALL AND SOMETIMES I GET EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED IN VEHICLES IN WHAT THEY ONCE WERE AND CAN AGAIN BE WITH A LITTLE WORK AND JUST WANT TO BREATHE THAT NEW LIFE INTO THEM, BUT IT ALSO CAN OFTEN BE CALLED A PROBLEM OR HORDING :) SO WITH FUTURE PLANS ON LARGER PERSONAL PROJECTS I'VE REALIZED I HAVE TO THIN THE HERD ON MY STASH OF SOME VEHICLES AND RESTORATION PROJECT TRUCKS, SO YOU MAY SEE A FEW GREAT CANDIDATES FILTER OUT HERE AND THERE IN THE HIGHBOY, C10 AND IH SCOUT DEPARTMENT (MY THREE SOFT SPOTS) WITH THAT SAID THIS JEEP WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WORK COULD BE DRIVEN FOR YEARS AND YEARS AS-IS AS AN OLD WORK HORSE, FARM RIG, OFF ROAD TRAIL VEHICLE, WEEKEND WARRIOR FUN TRUCK, BUT IT DESERVES TO HAVE SOME TIME, HARD WORK AND LOVE THROWN AT IT AND WOULD BE A GREAT START FOR A PARTIAL TO FULL RESTORATION OR A GREAT TRAIL RIG. THIS IS A TRUE ORIGINAL AND ICONIC 70'S CLASSIC!!! THIS JEEP HAS A 5 DIGIT ODOMETER THAT SHOWS 40,963 AND ROLLS OVER AT 100K, SO WE REALLY HAVE NO IDEA OF THE TRUE MILES. IT IS ODO EXEMPT IN WASHINGTON STATE AND WILL SAY THAT ON THE PURCHASE ORDER. PLEASE READ FURTHER AND WATCH THE VIDEO TO GET THE BEST IDEA OF THIS BEAUTY.BODY- THE JEEP CHEROKEE CHIEFS HAVE A KILLER LOOK AND AGGRESSIVE WIDE STANCE WITH THE FACTORY STEEL FENDERS AND CLASSIC BODY LINES. THE ROOF LINES, SIDE BODY LINES, CLASSIC GLADIATOR STYLE HOOD AND THE LOOK OF THE GRILLE HAS ALWAYS GRABBED ME ON THESE TRUCKS AND TO ME GIVES THAT ICONIC AND TOUGH LOOK. THIS 79 CHIEF NEEDS SOME LOVE ON THE OUTSIDE AND SHOWS IT, BUT IT IS ALL THE ORIGINAL SHEET METAL, HASN'T BEEN BEAT, DOESN'T HAVE ANY BIG DENTS AND IS A PRETTY SOLID AND SOUND RIG. IT HAS HAD A NUMBER OF PAINT JOBS ON IT THROUGH OUT THE YEARS AND THE PAINT IS THICKER THAN I LIKE AND CAN BE PULLED OFF IN CHUNKS WHERE ITS ALREADY CHIPPING. WHEN I PULLED OFF A CHIP IT GOES TO THE ORIGINAL METALLIC GREY PAINT. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE AFTER ITS ORIGINAL PAINT IT HAS BEEN ORANGE, ANOTHER COLOR THEN GRAY AND BLACK AGAIN. THE LAST PAINT JOB WAS A MAACO STYLE CHEAPY AND DONE WITH POOR PREP WORK. MOST OF THE BUBBLING YOU SEE IS ACTUALLY JUST THE PAINT AND POPS RIGHT OFF TO REVEAL THE ORIGINAL PAINT BELOW (AS SEEN IN THE VIDEO). THE LOWER PART OF THE BODY AND FACTORY METAL FENDER FLARES HAVE BEEN DONE IN SPRAY LINER. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD DREAMS OF A NEW PAINT JOB AS THIS TRUCK NEEDS AND STARTED REMOVING THE BAD BUBBLING PAINT, SANDING AND PRIMING ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE SPRAY LINER HAS BEEN REMOVED ON THE DRIVER REAR FENDER FLARE AND A FEW AREAS ON THE VERY BOTTOM. THIS TRUCK DOES HAVE SOME RUST LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOOR PAN, IN THE OUTER BOTTOM CORNER OF DOORS AND SURFACE RUSTING ON BOTTOM OF DOORS. THERE IS A GOOD AMOUNT OF RUST AND RUST BUBBLES STARTING ON THE REAR TAILGATE AND IT DOESN'T WANT TO LATCH, SO IT STAYS CLOSED IF YOU PUSH IT CLOSED AND THEN ROLL THE WINDOW UP, SO IF POSSIBLE IT WOULD BE BEST IF SWAPPED OUT WITH A BETTER PIECE. THE FRONT GRILLE IS IN AMAZING SHAPE AND A HARD TO FIND PIECE, ALL LENSES ARE IN NICE SHAPE, ALL LIGHTS WORK, ALL GLASS IS IN TACT AND FREE OF CRACKS, BUT ALL THE SURROUNDING RUBBER SEALS ARE SHOWING AGE WITH SOME FADING, CRACKS AND SOME HAVE SHRUNK A LITTLE OVER THE YEARS. BOTH DOORS SHUT AND OPEN EASILY WITH NO DOOR HINGE ISSUE ALONG WITH THE HOOD. THE DRIVER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE DOESN'T ALWAYS RETURN TO THE DOWN POSITION, SO YOU HAVE TO PUSH IT BACK DOWN TO MAKE SURE THE DOOR LATCHES AND THE PASSENGER OUTER DOOR HANDLE THUMB PUSH SOMETIMES STICKS IN WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR, BUT THESE BOTH CAN PROBABLY BE FIXED WITH SOME WD40 ALONG WITH THE TOUGHNESS OF ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOWS. THE REAR TIRE CARRIER COULD USE FRESH BOLTS AT THE HINGE CORNERS AND SOME WD40 ON THE LATCH AND GRAB HANDLE. THERE IS A MEDIUM SIZED SOFT DENT ON THE BACK PASSENGER QUARTER PANEL AFTER THE REAR TIRE. OVERALL I CALL THIS TRUCK A PROJECT TRUCK BECAUSE OF THE NEEDS AND LOOK OF THE BODY, BUT IT HAS GREAT BONES AND TONS OF POTENTIAL TO GO SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS. INTERIOR- INSIDE IT IS ALL ORIGINAL AND WITH A LITTLE WORK AND LOVE IT CAN BE A GREAT LOOKING INTERIOR LEAVING IT MOSTLY ORIGINAL. THE ORIGINAL FRONT BUCKET SEATS HAVE SOME SMALL HOLES AND WEAR, BUT I THINK LOOK GREAT FOR THE AGE AND I WOULD LEAVE THEM. THE FRONT FOLD DOWN CENTER ARM REST NEEDS TO BE RECOVERED TO LOOK GREAT AGAIN, THE BACK SEAT DOESN'T MATCH BUT LOOKS GOOD AND GETS THE JOB DONE. THE INSIDE HAS BEEN SPRAY LINED FROM THE REAR SEATS BACK. WE HAVE BOTH THE ORIGINAL VINYL SIDE PANELS FOR THE REAR CARGO AREA, BUT THEY HAVE WEAR AND AGE ON THEM. THE DOOR PANELS HAVE WEAR AND ARE A LITTLE OUT OF FORM FROM PROBABLY WATER LIKE THE REAR CARGO PANELS DO. THE DOORS LOCK, THE WING WINDOWS OPEN, LOCK AND MOVE GOOD, BUT THE WINDOWS ARE TOUGH TO ROLL DOWN AND UP. THE DASH LOOKS PRETTY GOOD, BUT SHOWS SOME AGE WITH SOME CHIPS, SCUFFS AND SURFACE RUST SPOTS ON THE METAL AREA, THERE ARE SOME CHIPS IN THE SPEAKER GRILLE OF THE DASH PAD AND THE HEADLINER IS MISSING. THE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK, BUT THERE IS 10 GALLONS OF FRESH IN THE TANK NOW. THE BLOWER MOTOR FIRES UP FOR THE HEATER AND THE A/C AND THE A/C STILL HAS A LITTLE COOL AIR LEFT IN HER AND COOLED ME DOWN A TINY BIT ON THE 80 DEGREE DAY I DID THE DRIVING VIDEO. MECHANICAL- AS STATED ABOVE THIS IS A ORIGINAL RUNNING AND DRIVING TRUCK THAT WAS A FUTURE PROJECT TRUCK FOR US. ALL OF OUR TRUCKS WE HAVE STORED FOR FUTURE WORK OR BUILDS ARE STARTED AND RAN EVERY TWO WEEKS WITH A SHORT DRIVE TO KEEP THE BLOOD PUMPING IN THEM AND FRESH FUEL. WHEN WE GOT THIS TRUCK WE PUT A REBUILT CARBURETOR ON, NEW DISTRIBUTOR, CAP, ROTOR, PLUGS, IGNITION CONTROL MODULE, BATTERY, FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER TO MAKE SURE IT WAS A RUNNER WHEN WE NEEDED IT TO AND ALSO SAFE TO SIT WHEN WINTER CAME. THE ORIGINAL 360 V8 ISN'T THE PRETTIEST WITH SOME LITTLE LEAKS HERE AND THERE, BUT FIRES RIGHT UP EVERY-TIME WITH A COUPLE PUMPS OF THE THROTTLE THANKS TO A PROPER WORKING ELECTRIC CHOKE. THIS JEEP DRIVES DOWN THE ROAD GOOD, SHIFTS THROUGH ALL 4 GEARS NICELY WITH NO CLUTCH SLIP OR GRINDING GEARS AND A SYNCHROS IN THE TRANS ARE GOOD THAT DELIVERS NICE AND TIGHT SHIFTS. THE POWER STEERING IS QUICK RATION STEERING BOX THAT MAKES FOR FUN AND VERY EASY DRIVING AND HAS JUST A TINY BIT OF FREE PLAY IN THE WHEEL. THERE IS NO COOLING ISSUES AND THE BRAKES STOP SMOOTH AND STRAIGHT WITH NICE PRESSURE. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL 360 V8 THAT IDLES SMOOTH, HAS PLENTY OF POWER, PULLS STRONG AND SOUNDS HEALTHY WITH NO SMOKING, LIFTER TICK OR KNOCKS, BUT HAS A LITTLE EXHAUST LEAK AT THE MANIFOLDS. THIS TRUCK DOES CRUISE DOWN THE ROAD FINE SHIFTING THOUGH ALL THE GEARS, BUT DOES LEAK A LITTLE POWER STEERING FLUID THAT IF LEFT IN PLACE FOR ALONG TIME WILL LEAVE SOME MARKS. IT HAS BLACK ROCK CRAWLER STYLE WHEELS AND 31" ALL TERRAIN TIRES WITH, NO DRY CRACKS, ROLL SMOOTH AND HAVE ABOUT 50% TREAD. WITH THE PARTS WE HAVE ALREADY THROWN AT IT I'D SAY WITH WITH SOME CLEAN-UP AND A FEW BUCKS THROWN AT IT TO FIX THE ABOVE ITEMS THIS TRUCK MECHANICALLY COULD BE LEFT ORIGINAL. IF YOU HAVE NOT EVER OWNED OR DRIVEN A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO SIMPLY LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF MODERN INVENTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED SINCE THIS TRUCK WAS BORN AND HOW FAR OTHER ITEMS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER THE PAST FEW DECADES AND KEEP IN MIND NEW VEHICLES HAVE THE BOXES TO CHECK FOR COMFORT OPTIONS LIKE LEATHER, HEATED SEATS, NAVIGATION ETC AND VEHICLES OF THIS ERA LOADED MEANT GETTING POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, A BASIC AM STEREO AND A SPARE TIRE :) THIS MAY HELP TO AIM YOUR EXPECTATIONS ON OWNING A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. The older the car, the harder it is to define the condition of the vehicle. Most of our vehicles are specialty vehicles or are 15+ years old, and usually trucks. Because of this, it is very difficult to describe each vehicle to everyone’s satisfaction. Based on the bidder's personal experience, some bidders will be overly pleased with my description and pictures, and others may feel that I fell short. I post these auctions based on how I want to see auctions when I’m buying, keeping in mind what I look for, and I try to put your eye's to what I can see and touch. Please help me by asking all questions and letting me know if other pictures are wanted. If you do not see a pic or description of a item or a area on the truck please do not assume anything and ask me about the specifics your a needing or for more pics and i will post every question asked by members so all potential bidders can see. Every car is available for inspection and i personally drive each vehicle before listing it and If anything does not work properly I will let you know. Of course I am only human and these are mechanical creatures and these are used vehicles, so please keep this in mind when bidding.
