1971 Jeep Commando Jeepster

Schroeder Motors is proud to offer this 1971 Jeepster Commando for sale.

Okay,....let me set the stage here,...today,...it was 99 degrees,....super hot and I decided to set out to test this Jeep.

For the 1st time,...I got in,...flicked the key and the Dauntless V6 came alive,...instantly. I leaned over,...rolled down the window only to pull out of our Dealership not knowing what I'd get into. I sure didn't want to be standing on the side of the road today.....but was prepared to do so in the name of a "Test Drive" .....you know,...a little risk on my part:)

With the fuel gauge showing under a half,...but more than a 1/4,...my first thought,..."Do I really think I should trust the gauge?" I decided to lean into this test drive,...and just believe it was correct,...pretty risky knowing classic Jeeps.

My first 3 miles went well,....to where I take the pictures. I felt better about the Jeepster after those 3 miels, the starts, the restarts,...looking for some Heat Soak,...there was none:) She just kept starting up everytime i move the Jeep for the best lighting.....my confidence grew.

Ibecame more "dauntless".....and so I took off,.....for the Haunted Streets of downtown St. Charles for another test.....of sorts.

(Yes,...haunted.

I once had a 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer,....a trusty ole girl. But everytime I drove past this Printing Shop in downtown Main StreetSt. Charles,...she'd cut off,...die if you will. I'd roll past....put her in nuetral....and she fire right back up. That's the only place this ever happened.....) Many years later,....St. Charles was featured on the Ghost Hunters TV Show,...I think I know why my Wagoneer did what it did)

Back to today,....the "Ghost Test",....I wondered if this Commando would do the same....so I went. On my way there,...I was sidetracked by Starbucks,....I pulled in,... front & center,...shut her off and in I went. Upon opening the door,...I was met by a 20 something girl,.....clapping her hands at me. Now this was a 1st.....She kindly says,..."Nice"....I replied,..."You're too young to know what that even is"...."It's sweet,....that's what it is" I resigned to end it there.....you can't out Cool a Cool Kid.

Once back in the Jeepster,...she fires and off I go to Main Street St. Charles,...wondering if the spirits werereally,...."Anti-Jeep" as I suspected. Down the Cobblestone street,..the Jeepster,...not missing a beat,...rolled right past the old Goellner Printing Shop under full power....I know,...all this build up for a non-event....but......this was MY test drive....Your's may varry:)

Now,...I'm confident,...this is good enough for ebay.....at least mechanically speaking,...but we won't win theSupermodel Jeep Trophy.....but there's more to this Jeep that meets the eye,....it's just a really great driver.

To end the Test Drive,...I cruised around,...and effortlessly made it back on the hottest day,...in traffic,..up hills,...down town....all is good with this drive train....we made it back:)

Here are my "Likes"

Vintage Patina that wears well,....look at the pictures,....there's plenty of knicks, scrapes and less than wonderful surfaces.....again,.....this 'ole Jeepster is like one of those Marlboro Men from the 70's,...a little rough around the edges,...but could still pick up any chick he wanted to.....even Farrah Faucet:)

Excellent Frame.

An "Original" look that's not original,...but most likely an older repaint I'd say from the late 80's.

I like the seats,...comfortable,...not correct,...but still better to sit.

The Cool Factor....even without working A/C.

I like the Simplicity of it all.....it takes a certain breed of cat to really appreciate it all,....even if there isn't very much.

And of course....the way it drives.

Now,...before I get into the Dislikes,....just know,...I wouldn't change a thing! But for ebay ..... and in the spirit of disclosure,....here we go with the imperfect aspects.

The Dislikes.

There is some mild rust spots on the undercarriage,...the floorboards,...they are Natural,...as in Original. I would seal up those spots and enjoy. They make a Naval Jelly that actually turns rust into a paintable surface. I'd apply this jelly,...and seal it up with some Bed Liner Spray....that ought to do it.....after all,...you're gonna drive it. Please notice the pictures.

The Original Headliner cardboard is attached,...but not pretty,...has had moisture and thus,...only mildly ugly,...but more towards the back cargo area.

That just about does it for the dislikes,...no bigdeal....and of course,...it's far from perfect,....but still NICE nonetheless, and extremely cool.

If you have any questions,...call me to discuss,...I'll be happy to help.....My Name is Joe.
