Up for sale is my amazing 1976 Jeep Cherokee Chief Sport Wide Track 4x4. This is a rare truck to begin with, made more so by the factory Sport option (fancy exterior bright work, "Indian Blanket" embossed deluxe interior, etc.), and the factory Wide Track option (wider factory heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, factory fender flares). The optional Reef Green paint is a beautiful and not often-seen color.
This rig has been essentially fully mechanically rebuilt to serve as an ultra-reliable daily driver, off-road machine, or bug-out rig. It has only 112k total miles on it, and was rebuilt right at 100k... very few miles on all the rebuilt components. She starts first turn of the key, runs smoothly, powerfully, and reliably, drives straight, steers right, brakes right. Factory options include power steering, tilt steering column, Sport trim package, and dual fuel tanks (yes, both work!). Added features include a nice front winch bumper (no winch, but has cover and fairlead) with two driving lamps, heavy-duty rear receiver hitch setup including wiring and trailer brake control, Safari rack with four high-mountied driving lamps, auxiliary back-up lights (a must in the woods and on trails),CB radio, pro lifted Rancho suspension, Super Swampers, and more.
The engine is a fully rebuilt small-block Chevrolet 4-bolt main 350 bored 0.30 over *(355 cubic inches) mated to the venerable Turbo Hydromatic 400 (TH400) automatic transmission, which is turn married to the original Quadra Track transfer case (with low range lock). The axles are the factory Dana 44 Sure Grip traction lock versions, fully rebuilt with 4.27 ring and pinion sets, new inner and outer bearings, seals, etc. The transmission was rebuilt and the transfer case serviced, all new u-joints, balanced drivelines, etc. I have receipts for most, if not all of the parts, and work performed. The SBC V8 engine provides a very reliable and powerful platform, inexpensive to service with affordable, readily-available parts. 9.5:1 compression is the perfect balance for power and pump gas, balanced steel crank bottom end, HV oil pump, HD cooling system, HD charging system w/Optima Red Top battery, MSD 6A high-output ignition, Edelbrock Performer 4x aluminum intake, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, RV/Torque performance cam, lifters, and springs, double-roller timing set, more. The right parts, the right build for power and reliability.
The truck has a new high-capacity aluminum radiator with dual electric cooling fans, and wired for manual on/off, automatic *(thermostatic) control, or off for extreme cold situations.
There is anonboardunder-hood engine-driven air compressor to allow you to air down the tires for mud/sand/snow/ice, and air them back up for the street. It's a conversion kit that utilizes a factory air conditioner compressor, complete with air chuck, pressure gauge and valve, and an electric high-idle carburetor solenoid for rapid inflation.
Nearly new lightweight polished aluminum 15" x 10" off-road wheels mounted with nearly new 36 x 12.50-15LT Super Swamper TSL tires.
Suspension consists of a Rancho 4" spring lift and associated components (pitman arm, RS5000 shocks, dual steering stabilizers, etc) and a 2" phenolic body lift. The perfect height, stance, and look with the Wide Track axles and flares.
Factory power front disc brakes are in excellent order, as is the factory power steering... she drives very smoothly and straight down the road. Very little to no wander.
The interior is very nice-looking, with excellent Sport "Indian Blanket" upholstery, custom matching center console replacing the fold-down "buddy seat," new carpet, very nice dash and gauges. Extra dash-mounted switches for the upper rack-mounted driving lamps, front bumper-mounted driving lamps, electric cooling fans (manual/auto/off), high-idle electric solenoid carb control, and manual choke control. It has a contemporary stereo system, and a CB radio. The headliner is currently out; it is complete with all trim components... I was planning to install a new headliner, and will do so upon the sale of the vehicle. The glass is all original and good, with the exception of one crack in the windshield. The rear power window works, but needs a little manual assistance to get all the way up. The rear cargo area is very nice, side- and door panels nice, rear seat folds down as it should. No rips or tears in the upholstery; exceptionally nice.
All the gauges work, turn signals, lights, wipers, heater, etc. all in proper working order. Heavy-duty Optima red top dry-cell battery with shut-off switch. All major electrical circuits (starter/charging system, headlights, cooling fans, dash cluster) have been professionally rewired to include high fender-mounted relays; this allows the vehicle to traverse deep water without shorting out any vital systems. It also relieves the on/off voltage spike and prevents blow fuses.
The body is very straight and dry with the exception of the passenger side rear quarter panel, and a bit of damage on the passenger side rear fender. No floor rust issues at all. I have a perfect front fender that will go with the truck, in the event that you choose to repair and repaint at some point in the future. Grill is excellent, rear chrome bumper very nice, front winch bumper very nice.
Clear title in hand, matches VIN exactly for inspection, export, licensing, etc. While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle as accurately as possible, it is in fact a 40-year-old classic, and therefore bing sold as-is, without warranty or guarantee expressed, written, or implied. Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer; I own a classic auto/truck restoration and hot rod shop, and have vehicles being shipped out weekly. I can recommend a reliable carrier, but the choice is ultimately yours alone.
Please be prepared to remit payment in full within 3 days of auction's end via deposit into my Bank of America account, or bank wire transfer.
