Description:

1968 Jaguar E-Type XK-E Coupe

Numbered 1E35164 this highly desirable ‘Series 1.5’ Jaguar XKE Fixed-Head Coupe (FHC) is exceptionally original being never fully restored but very well maintained and preserved to the highest of standards. A complete numbers matching example confirmed by the corresponding Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate 1E35164 was built on February 2 1968 factory-finished in color code 1054 Silver Blue Metallic and dispatched from the factory on May 24 1968. We purchased this Jaguar in Southern California from the previous owner who... acquired December 2 1998. Shortly after his purchase he had the engine rebuilt to pre-1967 specs using standard-size 9:1 pistons and updating of the cylinder head for unleaded gasoline. Supporting systems were addressed to match including the clutch updated HD cooling system exhaust and the addition of new rear shocks. and the clutch. Modern R134a air conditioning system was professionally installed during the summer of 2015. Carefully maintained preserved and serviced during the last 20 years this E-Type is a great driver. This XKE continues to benefit handsomely from a bare-metal repaint performed in 2003. This is a wonderfully preserved and highly enjoyable example throughout this very special ‘Series 1.5’ XKE is ready to appreciate and enjoy with the undeniable overall feel that only a car like this can possibly deliver. We have had this Jaguar in our private collection for the last 2 years and are proud to offer it for sale. Please feel free to call James Krueger with any questions at 877-893-8496.The hit of the March 1961 Geneva show and an instant object of desire worldwide Jaguar’s beautiful E-Type (designated XKE in America) uncannily managed to keep pace with the fast-changing demands of buyers and regulators throughout its run. Built along four distinct groups through the end of production in 1974 the E-Type consistently maintained its lean purposeful appearance and outstanding performance. While several noticeable differences were heralded by the updated 1968 models Jaguar never officially referred to them as ‘Series 1.5’ unlike today’s collectors. Most noticeably the former covered headlamps were switched to more visible open headlamps. Retaining the 4.2-liter DOHC ‘six’ introduced late in the first series the Series 1.5 cars now utilized twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors; although horsepower output dropped slightly the new carburetors were easier to tune than the old SU units. Inside passenger room was improved and the prior aircraft-style toggle switches were replaced by rockers. In short the careful and steady evolution of the E-Type meant that buyers of the ‘Series 1.5’ cars in 1968 enjoyed an improved more comfortable and reliable Jaguar than ever before.
