1989 Jaguar XJ6

This 1989 Jaguar XJ6 might be the last of the hand-built old-school Jags. a descendant of the same inline-six that powered the XK120 and E-Type, it combines sublime old-world craftsmanship with plenty of performance and luxury that still feel contemporary today. With just 37,739 miles on the clock, this cat is still quite fresh. The shape should look familiar to anyone who has been paying attention to cars for the past 40 years or so, and quite honestly, it still works. Modern Jaguars are, well, modern, but this car has elegance, sophistication, and a bespoke confidence that the new designs just can't match. The glossy black paint emphasizes the sedan's formality, and as you'd expect, it's deep and glossy in a way that modern finishes just can't quite match. The car has obviously been well-maintained and remained out of the elements for most of its life, and even though it's more than 25 years old, it shows only modest signs of use. One of the appealing things about British cars in particular is their use of chrome; it's not big and heavy like the Americans seem to prefer, but rather tasteful accents that feel substantial. Touch the door handles and they somehow feel heavy, the upright grille infers quiet confidence, and the bright trim around the windows has an old-fashioned elegance that's missing today.Interiors are a specialty of the British, and Jaguars in particular have an immaculate blend of luxury and sport that's been their appeal from the very beginning. The handsome tan leather bucket seats remain in excellent condition, with only minor signs of use even on the driver's seat. Plush brown carpets are eminently tasteful and give the interior a hushed feeling that's hard to articulate but you'll notice it the moment you climb in. All the wood that you see is real wood, not some plastic facsimile, and again, a few tasteful bits of chrome make all the difference. Of course, you also get all the accessories, including power windows, locks, mirrors, and seats, automatic climate control, and a fantastic-sounding AM/FM/cassette stereo. Overhead there's a sunroof, and as the Vanden Plas edition, rear seat passengers are treated to their own mini console and drop-down trays in the back of the front seats. And as a grand tourer, this Jag includes a spacious trunk that's outfitted with correct mats and a correct spare tire. The 3.6 liter inline-6 under the hood can trace its lineage back to the post-war Jags that transformed the sports car market. Of course, with fuel injection, it's far more manageable today and with all that displacement inside, it feels effortlessly torquey. It's also turbine smooth and has been properly maintained, with a sparkling engine bay with OEM-grade equipment throughout. The A/C system has been completely replaced and overhauled and there's a new master cylinder, and it was recently given a completely once-over with the goal to repair anything that needed attention. Cars like this don't usually show that kind of dedication to maintenance after so many years. The 4-speed automatic transmission shifts easily and the famous Jaguar independent suspension soaks up road irregularities with ease, yet doesn't seem to mind hustling on your favorite twisty road. Big disc brakes feel robust and it sits on polished alloy wheels with recent 205/70/15 blackwall radials for a conservative look.Still beautiful and still a joy to drive, there's just nothing like an old Jaguar to make you feel special. This one is shockingly affordable, so don't hesitate, call today!
