Another amazing American Binder has arrived at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. We are pleased to present this 1968 Travelette 1200 4x4 Crew Cab Pickup. Originally sold to the state of Arizona as a rail utility vehicle, this 140" wheelbase truck, made in International's Chicago, Illinois factory, was originally a 4x4 model with a 304 CID V-8 but now has been upgraded to a genuine International 392ci V8 engine with a 4-barrel carb mated to a three speed automatic transmission.

The 1968 models were the next-to-last model year for the 1200 B/C/D-series trucks and in our opinion is the best looking body style for the Travelette pickup!International was ahead of their time with the introduction of the crew cab pickup truck in the mid 1950's with their 3 door pickup. In 1961 International came out with the first ever 4 door "Crew Cab" pickup available to the market and was decades ahead of the big three on producing a full production in house crew cab pickup. Unfortunately in the 1960's crew cab trucks were hard to sell to the public and most were sold to the railroad companies (such as this one) and government contracts. Fast forward to todays market and four door pickup trucks are now the most popular! So todays buyer looking for a "crew cab" classic truck has very few options! Resulting in the demand and the short supply of these clean example trucks has created large value increases and very hot demand!

The tan paint and trim are in overall good condition. The truck's bodywork is straight and the cargo bay with its full-size spare tire, size 235/85R16.

This truck has 8 lug wheels and hubs with 235/85R16 light truck tires mounted on vented alloy wheels with factory front locking hubs.

Under the hood, the original SV 304 CID V8 has been upgraded to the larger International SV 392 CID V-8 with 4 barrel carb and backed up by a three-speed automatic transmission. Truck has power steering and power brakes. Is equipped with factory air conditioning but is not fully complete. Contains the hard to find parts such as under dash unit, interior controls, and compressor which all items are still mounted.

Inside, the truck's tan and brown interior is in overall good order and the two colors contrast very well together. The brown front and rear bench seats look great, as does the black carpeting. The white headliner is in good order, as is the three-spoke brown steering wheel. The two-toned instrument panel with full array of gauges looks splendid and the inner door liners are in very good order. There is an aftermarket Electro cassette player mounted under the dash and the horn and fuel gauge are inoperable.

The pickups continued to undergo a continuous stream of minor modifications to the grilles and headlight fitment. For model year 1964, the renamed range (C-900 to C-1500) received single headlights. For 1965 the name became the D series, followed by the 900A-1500A in 1966, 900B-1500B for the next year, and the last year (1968) which was unsurprisingly called 900C-1500C, depending on weight rating. New for 1968 was the option of AMC's 232 cubic inch inline-six engine, rather than International's own BG-series six. Other changes for 1968 included new bright aluminum headlight bezels to match the grill; the "IH" badge disappeared from the hood; square marker lights added to the front fender with model designation moved to just behind them versus behind the wheel opening; multiple trim levels offered; and new chrome and aluminum trim available for the truck's length.

If you're a truck fan, a Binder nut or someone who seeks a different form of classic transportation, with the ability to haul your family and tow, you should drop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to looks this vintage factory "Crew Cab" truck over before someone else puts in in their garage.

Competition to this Travelette in 1967 included Chevrolet's C-series pickup, Dodge's D-series pickup, Ford's F-series and GMC's C-series trucks.
