1974 International Harvester Scout XLCRestored 1974 International Scout II XLC.345 V8 automatic, 4x4 drive.
The good:Completely refreshed engine with about 54,000 miles (speedometer says 20,000, but it has been replaced), with 2 barrel Holley carburetor. New sparkplugs, cables and distributor cap. Ignition points have been replaced with Pertronix electronic ignitor and coil, for better performance. This Scout sounds awesome. Professionally rebuilt transmission and rear differential. Inspected transfer case and front differential. Power steering refreshed. Brakes updated with new power brake booster, new drums and shoes installed. New paint, matching the original factory Mayan Mist Iridium color. New tires. New glass pack exaust system. Heavy duty front and rear bumper. Front seats are from early '90 Olds. Drivers seat is powered. All gauges have been replaced with aftermarket gauges, except speedo, which is a Scout gauge. Wipers and washer fluid refreshed and work a treat. Parking brake cables replaced. Radio works. Top is removable and it's a blast to drive. Gets a lot of looks from both men and women. Lots of work done on this Scout and I have all the receipts. I am probably forgetting some stuff here.
The bad:AC compressor has been taken out. These were quite unreliable. All other AC components are there and AC can be installed easily. Compressors from late '80 Chevy trucks mount right on. Just never got to it. Heating works well.Gas tank and fuel gauge sending unit will have to be checked/replaced at some point, but not urgent. In addition, two inline gasoline filters have been installed to pick up any particles in fuel. Truck runs strong and reliable, but fuel gauge is not accurate.Windshield has a scratch from passenger wiper.
Bonus:Old school Coleman cooler in back.Bunch of spare parts, including original Scout II front seats.
Truck has Texas blue title, it is registered and insured. Driven around the neighborhood daily. Ready for the fall.
