I'm putting up for auction my M998 Military HMMWV Hummer with only 11K+- miles. I purchased this in June from Iron Planet and picked it up from the DSCC (Defense Supply Center, Columbus). At the time 14 were for sale, and a military neighbor of mine checked them all out for me, and told me which one to bid on. This one was the big winner, as I saw the others and was glad he helped me to choose wisely. This one was recently in service with the Ohio Army National Guardand was stationed on anAirport for the army to use. This means it was driven around tarmacs and serviced regularly and wasn't being driven hard out in the middle of nowhere. 19 year olds like to have fun, but they wouldn't dare fool around an airport nor in the constant sight of their superiors.
I picked it up and changed the oil, the transmissionfluid and went through the whole vehicle, double checking electrical grounds and making sure everything is ready. Everything is tip top. As my neighbor said, this one is in better condition than any HMMWVs in the motor pool that he worked on in S. Korea that were being currently used in the service. The brake pads have tons of pad and nothing is leaking and everything is tight. The engineoil was golden before I changed it and it has stayed clean ever since. I have never seen a diesel enginestay this clean before (yet I also have only had high mile diesels.) Keep in mind it is a 1990 and is not in mint condition.
The tarp and doors are in great shape and looks as if they were recently replaced as all the plastic is clear and not aged. All the lights work properly including the blackout lights whichis great if you have night vision goggles. I did replace the passenger side door handle as it was originallybroken and could have been why it was sent off to the auction block, it's the military rhymes and reasons do not always make perfect sense.
It drives straight and cruises nicelyat 60MPH. It has the throttle lock. 4 Wheel High for normal driving and 4 Wheel Drive Low, which locks up everything and will let this 6.2 Diesel engine just crawl right up a wall if you want it to. It is perfect to show up your jeepwrangler and FJ40 Toyota friends, as this is the ultimate Off Road 4x4 with everythingtucked up into the body so it can travel over anything and glide over obstacleswithout doing damage to any oil pans, differentials or transmissionslike most 4x4 Vehicles. It has the reliable and efficient 6.2 Diesel Engine that is said to be a bulletproof setup.
All electricsare in their original military spec waterproof configuration so feel free to drive this into water up to 30 inches high, or add a snorkelkit and bring a scuba tank for yourself, as you'll need it to breath while cruising underwater! The gas tank and everything is sealed too so no worryingabout water contamination or electricalgremlins as the wires engine and everything is tight.
You get more torque and HP than the civilian model and a heck of a heater for the coldest of winter days. Plus this looks more beefy and gets more questions and stares than anything on the road.
As you can tell from the pictures it is currently in the 2 man truck configuration. This is better than a RAZR as it has a huge payload plus heat! The 3rd and fourth seats are there and the backs of the seats fold flat into the bed of the truck waiting for you to put a 4 man top on to cruise with more friends or just do as I have, and let them ride around in the open if they want a ride and need more seating.

Don't bid on the older worn out HMMWVs that are left, have to instantly pay, wait 4 months to get cleared by your EUC just to be able to pick up or hire someone to ship it to you, and then wait another 2 months for the Govt to send you the proper title paperwork (if you get it)as they are currently backlogged for the proper title paper work to arrive much later than expected. That was my experience. (I must mention this was purchased from the military, so nope I can't export this out of the country thats also why the vin doesn't match a normal vin size AND THE ONE LISTED UP TOP IS FAKE FOR EBAY)

Oh a nice feature is the doors just pop off like a jeep wrangler, up and out. (I've had two and loved that feature) It is fun to cruise around with friends with the doors off or pick up the kids. Everyone loves it wherever you arrive.
