1972 GMC Jimmy

1972 GMC Jimmy

Originally from West Texas/New Mexico area. Restored 6 years ago. This is a rust-free survivor. The only rust on this truck was under the battery box. The battery tray, inner fender, and right front fender were all replaced and not repaired. This truck started life as a 4WD Jimmy, the chassis was replaced with an original 2WD chassis from a donor 72 during restoration. The body is solid as it gets, no rust in doors, rockers, rocker boxes, windshield frame, or any of the other usual problematic areas they are known for. Body was stripped, primed and painted PPG base coat/clear in GM Victory Red. The firewall, doors, dash, etc were also stripped and painted. Then professionally buffed and polished to near perfection. The paint job is a 9 out of 10, no ripples or orange peel here. The factory removable double wall top was also sanded smooth to remove the factory texture and painted white. As you can see from the pics, the paint is right. The paint work alone costs $12,000.00. It is a driver so there are a few small rock chips accumulated over the last 6 years but not much. If it wasn’t for that it would be a 10. Mechanically it is awesome. A 2008 GM Gen 4 6.0L LY6 Vortec V8 with matching 6L90E 6 speed transmission was installed from a wrecked 2500 with 58,000 miles on it. A Comp cams stick, headers, and duals round out the package. Professionally tuned E38 ECU wired with a Current LS wiring harness make this truck run and sound great! Vintage air heat and a/c, quick ratio steering box, and reworked brakes make driving a pleasure. The chassis was cleaned, c notched, lowered, and detailed to complete the look. The interior is original. It was in such good condition I did not want to change it. The factory gauges with tach are utilized with the help of Dakota Digital tach and speedo adapters for the LS engine set up. It’s a blast to drive with the top off (my preference) and it is surprising how fast this combo is. A list of the improvements are as follows:

I am probably forgetting something, but this gives you an idea of the time and money spend on this rebuild. It is a nice truck and a great driver. Not a rust bucket, no junk here. I am looking for a new ride, going back to a pickup since the family has grown up and moved out. I will consider a nice 67-72 C10 on trade but no junk. I will assist buyer with loading and shipping….
