1991 Geo Metro LSi

PLEASE EXAMINE DETAILED AUTO REPORT CAREFULLY. There is no discrepancy in mileage or an issue with odometer; the INCORRECT box was checked at DMV when registered. Mileage stated IS CORRECT!
You're looking at a 1991 Geo Metro LSi Convertible in excellent mechanical condition. I purchased this for my wife with the intention of doing a 100% restoration, and have invested about $3000 in the mechanicals, including:
  • New timing belt and kit (4000 miles)
  • New water pump (4000 miles)
  • 2 New motor mounts
  • New tranny mount.
  • New fuel filter, air cleaner, plug wires
  • New distributor kit and gasket
  • New rear brakes (4000 miles)
  • New brake drums (4000 miles)
  • New wheel cylinders (4000 miles)
  • 4 new tires (4000 miles)
  • 4 year appropriate wheel covers
  • New lower control arm/ball joint assembly (4000 miles)
  • New CV Joints (4000 miles)
  • New tie rod end (4000 miles)
  • 4 new struts (4000) miles
  • Transmission flush
  • Aftermarket AM-FM CD player

The previous owner had already done a valve job prior to my purchase of the vehicle, and I have never changed the plugs nor done a full tune. The vehicle runs cool, even in 100 degree heat, never reaching past the 1/2 way mark, and the electric fan kicks on as designed.Burns no oil.No fluid leaks of any kind. All lights, signals, washer/wiper, etc work as designed.
WHAT I KNOW IT NEEDS MECHANICALLY:
It still needs the front engine mount. The 3 cylinder motor tends to vibrate more than a 4 cylinder anyway. It can be very confusing finding the correct part, as 1991 was a "split year" for this vehicle (June 1991). I located an eBay seller based in California that can get ALL the specialty parts for this vehicle, straight from Suzuki, Japan, including that front mount, and the rubber weatherstripping for each side that should be done before installing a new convertible top. I will be happy to furnish his contact information, as he offered me a discount on all the weatherstripping and is a wealth of information (he owns a 1991 convertible also).
The mechanic that did some of the initial work on the vehicle (I later found a man that specializes in Geos, and in fact, sold me my 1996 Metro) failed to install the "stops" when replacing the struts. I had planned on having those $10 parts re-installed, however I never got around to it.
Aftermarket cruise control does not work. May be disconnected. My wife used this car only back and forth to work locally, so it was not a priority.
Has A/C, however I never bothered to check as to why it blew lukewarm. May need freon, however, again, running A/C on a 3 cylinder while driving in town isn't a great idea anyway!
COSMETICS:
The body is STRAIGHT, with just a few quarter-sized dings. There is NO RUST in the "usual places" that Geos typically rust. The faded white hood stripe has about a 4 inch section with surface rust on it (see photos). That's it!
Original paint is good (photos taken after a night's rain), but would buff out even better. I am a cardiac patient, so even that simple chore was never done. I did have the kid next door wash it and detail it the best he could.
No rust to undercarriage, floor boards, rockers, and absolutely no rust on frame or suspension components.
Convertible top has no holes and does not leak, however it should be replaced. The 3 pieces of weatherstripping on each side need replacing (again, the seller in Cali will give a decent discount if you purchase all of the pieces together).
Color coordinated plastic bumpers have some scrapes, and the front apron has a small (3") crack on the bottom (see photo)The interior carpets need cleaning (or replacing for restoration).
No damage to dash or interior; no cracks or warping. I bought new replacement "kick panels" but have not installed.
I small "star" chip near bottom of front window glass. Not cracked, and still repairable.
Custom car cover is included.
BOTTOM LINE
I originally purchased this Geo to tow behind our 30' motorhome, however life is full of changes, and the motorhome is gone, and so is my wife, who had no real appreciation for this vehicle other than a means of transportation back and forth to work. Not including the initial purchase price, there has been about $3000 invested in this little beauty so far. Mechanically, I would not hesitate to jump in and drive it to California. I am on Social Security and in need of cash for a medical procedure co-payment, so I will take a loss on my investment.
A GREAT START at a full restoration, or simply drive it. Averages about 34 MPG.
