1974 Ford F100 Pickup

Legend has it that early on in the history of Ford Motor Company a noticeable lowercase "e" completed the curl at the back of the cursive F on the Ford name. Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison both had winter estates in Ft. Meyers, Florida, and shared ideas and cigars. One Idea that would make Ford a real innovator was the concept of the assembly line. This original idea came from Edison, and in deference to him and his idea, Henry Ford honored him in his early logo with that "e" on the curl, and as they say the rest is history!

For consignment a worker truck which has been restored a bit, driven a bit, worked a bit, and enjoyed a lot. Our consigner has plenty of mechanical work, the previous owner was a body shop man so that's been all addressed and repainted, and now a nice example from 1974 that can be reliably driven and used on a daily basis if you wanted to.

Exterior
A nice use of two tone blue and white, play different parts on this truck with blue being on the roof and running rearward on the bottom of the cap. Also seen in this beautiful blue on the sides from just below the belt line to the bottom. White then takes over and floods the hood doors above the belt line and top off the rear cap. Chrome is all nice and straight with no dimpling, presenting shiny and mirror like. On back more two tone interplay with that white above the beltline stripe continuing, and the blue below but knockout some of the blue on the tailgate all in white for the F O R D badge. Lowering this gate reveals a rubber lined bed, white interior, and a white painted interior to the cap, with no runs, drops, or leaks. A large diamond plate rear bumper is now attached all rechromed and looking fab, as do the dual side pipes which peek out just before the rear wheel wells. 15-inch polished wheels are on all 4 corners, and nice raised white letter Cooper Discoverer Radial LT like new tires (31x10.5X15LT's) are wrapping these shiny wheels.

Interior
A large bench seat with tuck and roll broadcloth inside panels in gray, and vinyl bolsters in dark blue can be seen stretching form door panel to door panel. Doors are original and have tuck and roll vinyl, also in gray broadcloth and some blue molded vinyl and a long storage pouch below. Seats and door panels show some slight dirt and seats have minor wrinkling, but nothing out of ordinary use over time. Looking to the dash we see a wonderful warm patina instrument cluster, a look that only age can give. Some wood appliqu accents chromed bezeled rectangular instruments. The original steering wheel is in front. Below floats nice blue carpet, with some floor mats above. A black vinyl headliner hangs above with some ripples and sagging and the obligatory gun rack is seen mounted in the rear window.

Drivetrain
A 351M V8 is now under the hood. Our consigner states that some serious mechanical work has been performed such as a new carburetor, wires belts and hoses, intake gaskets, exhaust manifolds, new master cylinder, a coolant flush, and new alternator. A single 2-barrel carburetor is atop, and a C6 3-speed automatic transmission is on back with a Ford 9-inch rear axle.

Undercarriage
Underneath we see such goodies as a new Dana 44 front axle, new front springs, radius arm bushings, steering damper and new rear axle seals and bearings. We too can note a stainless-steel exhaust. For the front suspension is radius arm and coil springs, and leaf springs for the rear. Power drum brakes are on all 4 corners and are now sporting new lines. Some road dirt is noted underneath, but only from solid usage over time.

Drive-Ability
This nicely preserved, and well-maintained truck lights right up and runs like a champ. Able to accelerate nicely, handles smoothly with no wandering, straight bias free braking, and a good cruiser at highway speeds.

This classic is ready for more work if you want to do it, or more showing if you are so inclined to do that. The beneficiary of a previous owner being a body man, and this owner being meticulous on the mechanical maintenance end, and we have a winner, the 1974 Ford F-100 Ranger XLT trimmed pickup, two tone and looking great.
