Description:

1970 Ford Mustang

This 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 was built at the Metuchen plant in September 1969, was delivered new to Pine Ford in Camden, Arkansas, and is finished in Lime Metallic over a black vinyl interior. Power is supplied by an overbored 428ci Super Cobra Jet V8 mated to a four-speed Toploader transmission. The included Marti report lists that the car was factory optioned with the Drag Pack Option, power steering, an AM radio, and a 3.91:1 Traction-Lok rear axle. The car was modified for drag racing by its original owner in Arkansas and underwent a rotisserie refurbishment after being acquired in 2008. Approximately 200 miles have been added since completion of the work in 2010. A great amount of research went into locating the parts for the car. Such as a DOZF AA carburetor that in a one year carb selling for around $3K by itself, smog, oil cooler, I located a NOS rear louver that has the original factory paint, and installed a custome 2.5" exhaust with custom made tips to match the factory ones. This Mustang Mach 1 is offered with refurbishment receipts and photos, a Deluxe Marti report, a copy of the voided original title, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The paint job was completed by Thorpe’s Body & Corvette Shop of O’Fallon in the original lime green metalic, following the installation of rear quarter panels and shock towers (the old ones were beaten in for headers lol). A black hood stripe and “428” graphics were added, and other Mach 1–specific appointments include a rear deck spoiler, rear window louvers, and rocker-panel moldings.

Magnum 500 wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. The car is equipped with power steering and rear disc brakes. A front-end alignment was performed last year.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a five-digit odometer showing just under 21k miles, approximately 200 of which were added by the seller. Mileage is believed to be accurate based on conversation with the original owner who purchased it new and did the conversion for the drag strip.

The 428ci Super Cobra Jet V8 has been bored .030″ over and was rebuilt by Belleville Automotive of Belleville, Illinois in June 2008 . According to the provided build sheet, the work included installation of TRW pistons and a Crane Fireball camshaft. The firewall and transmission housing were replaced as well.

All nuts and bolts are period correct from Dead Nuts On, no expense spared in the restoration, over $80K in receipts and a lot of sweat equity. It is a fine car and runs spectacular!
