1940 Ford Deluxe

1940 Ford Deluxe

Excerpt from the Foreword section of the original owner's manual... "The fact that you are the owner of a new Ford car is, in itself, an indication that you have a keen appreciation of a well-designed, carefully manufactured automobile. It has been designed to perform faithfully for many thousands of miles, and Ford Motor Company has the utmost confidence that this car will fulfill your expectations." I think this wraps it up nicely!

For consignment this beautiful iconic design Ford Deluxe. Wonderful condition all around with key upgrades for drivability and reliability convenience. Presenting very nicely, and a great driver, I can attest to this from firsthand experience. With a '75 Maverick drivetrain, 650 Double Pumper Holley, and a larger camshaft, she's a classy running and looking hot rod.

Exterior
Black cherry paint covers all the straight, dent and rust free, steel panels that make up the exterior of this car. For your added visual enjoyment, black fenders in front and rear adjoined by a running board contrast to the black cherry. Front bumpers have been shaved, and a very nice art nouveau style grille is flanked by 2 teardrop shaped headlights which are framed in deluxe oversized bezels. Chrome and brite-work is excellent, and around the front split glass trimmings have been blackened. In back the wonderfully curved rear has a split oval back glass, long curving trunk lid, and a flourish pinstripe at the bottom of the lid. A blackened rear bumper is on, sergeant stripe taillights have nice bright bezels, and are mounted on curved black rear quarters which show slight cracking in the paint at the rear bottoms. 15-inch custom Colorado Wheels shine within black wall rubber wrappings.

Interior
Like the original mohair, new mauve colored velour material lines the door panels, has a simple striped black and gray broadcloth center highlight piece, and supports the door handle and crank as well as the mauve suede covered door pull and armrest. Black and gray striped broadcloth with some inserted mauve stripes for the inserts, and mauve bolsters, stretches over the front split bench. Behind the split bench is another overstuffed couch like bench in the same pattern as the front. Up front, new gauges have been installed into the pristine dash, which is maroon metal, and white faced gauges within a rectangular stainless steel panel for this cluster. In the center, the original horizontal ribs of the speaker cover remains in its original form, some updated knobs are just below, and under the dash is an aftermarket AM/FM/CD digital radio. The tight headliner is light gray, and the carpet below is darker gray, all looking good with the gray toned striped and mauve seats.

Drivetrain
A nice and nearly new in appearance 302ci V8 now sits under the hood. This has a polished intake, and valve covers, air cleaner cover, and a consigner stated larger camshaft within it. On top is a Holley 650 double pumper, on back is a C-4 automatic transmission, and the rear axle is a Ford 8-inch 3.00 gear ratio. Also noted are a new radiator and all supple hoses and wiring like new.

Undercarriage
As expected, looking like the body was removed from the X frame and both were restored and put back together. New gas tank, a 1975 Maverick drivetrain with transverse leaf springs upfront, and leaf springs on the back. Front disc brakes are now on, and the drums remain on the rear but have been upgraded from the originals. A clean FlowMaster exhaust snakes from front to rear and ends in rectangular chromed tips below the bumper.

Drive-Ability
As I swung the door to the passenger's side, my partner in crash testing and test driving took the wheel, and we had a great convo about these old Fords. She ran like a top, good power, bias free braking on the panic stopping, and all functions appeared to be working just swimmingly. A pleasurable test drive.

A wonderful example of the 1940 Ford Deluxe coupe, pretty paint in two tone, nice chrome and Art Nouveau styling. Call me a sucker for those teardrop headlights and that curvaceous rising grille. The new engine and plenty of power does not kick this car out of bed for eating crackers either.
