1964 Ford Ranchero Base

FOR SALE: 1964 Ford Falcon Ranchero. Unrestored survivor. 76K miles. Base model. 170 Special 6 cylinder with three speed manual transmission. Has all the features of a base model - one speed wipers, no washers. No cigarette lighter. No door operated dome light. No carpets. Has original rubber floor mats. Came with radio delete. I gave in and installed a refurbished, original AM radio, and had a body shop make the hole for the antenna in the fender in the proper place, and the hole was prepped and primed where the hole was made to prevent rust. Has the original steer head upholstery and it's in good shape with very minimal wear, door panels look nice, headliner is respectable. Sun visors show wear and rips in binding at the edge. Everything works. Has optional heater. Car was originally from Nebraska then moved to South Dakota. It was in storage for quite a few years before we bought it. The second owners were planning on "fixing it up" but after their fourth child was on the way needed the money and sold it to us. Although I'm in Minnesota it has never been driven in a Minnesota winter and has been parked indoors in a heated garage. I know every one likes to say "rust free" and this pretty much is. There is NO rust through on the body anywhere, and the floors are rock solid. It has the usual bumps, bruises etc. that you would expect in a 55+ year old work vehicle. There's a dent in the tailgate, there's a crease on the rear quarter passengers side. There was damage behind the drivers rear wheel that was amateur repaired before we owned it and painted - or more accurately "touched up" - with "sort of matching" paint (this was along the bottom edge, not a "crash" dent). Hood and doors all work and are solid. Tailgate works. I installed NOS chrome trim around the bed (for which I paid far too much) which came on the deluxe model and really doesn't belong on this base model, and it's still in perfect condition. Buyer will also receive the original, body color, paint chipped and beat up and basically ugly original molding for the bed. Mechanically car has been completely gone through. Gas tank has been removed and cleaned, new sender installed. Front springs are new, as are the spring perches and shocks. Brakes are new from master cylinder to wheel cylinders. When purchased we discovered a bent pushrod and stuck valve so installed a rebuilt head with new valves and valvetrain, etc, (we did not paint the head red, it came that was from the rebuilder in California) and while we were messing around with it also replaced timing chain and gears, water pump, fuel pump, all hoses, etc. It also has a rebuilt generator, new regulator, solenoid and battery. Original clutch had deteriorated from sitting - has complete new clutch kit including flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, etc. It has five new proper stock size tires with only a few hundred miles on them (the original spare which was still in the car had never been used! But was replaced due to age.). Comes with reprint owners manual, original shop manual, modern printed copy of the shop manual, and a bunch of spare new parts, among which is a second new set of front springs, I insisted the ones installed were too tall even though the supplier insisted they were correct. Bought another set from a different supplier intending to try them out one day, but never did. Also included in the extra parts are brake shoes, wheel cylinder, brake hardware kits, valve cover gasket, spare new fuel pump, a few sets of NOS spark plugs, extra fuel filter, etc. Most mechanical work was done in a shop by a well certified mechanic. Have documentation for most of it. If you notice scuffs on the dash under the radio, those are from the radio delete plate that was on the car when new as it was a base model with no options and didn't have a radio in it. The delete plate had a foam backing and after 50+ years of being in place it wore the paint that was under it. The buyer will also receive the rare radio delete plate. Starts, runs and drives smoothly. Steering and brakes are excellent. Has original wheels which have been powder coated gray. The bumpers had been rechromed before we got it - the back one is beautiful, the front has some bubbling in a small area at the front drivers corner where something dripped on it over a long period of time while stored before we bought it. Glass is excellent except for a small chip in the lower left corner of the windshield (not in field of vision). The only mechanical beef I can come up with is the carb tends to get dirty inside and idle gets crummy so you have to keep a bit of choke on (it has the stock manual choke) to keep it idling. I suspect some crap got in it after the tank cleaning that I didn't get cleaned up properly. As far as I know paint is original, as it shows it's age. I also notice that not all body parts match color exactly. I always assumed that, for example, the drivers rear quarter may have been repainted at some time. But then I saw an all original 1964 Falcon with 38,000 miles on it at a car show this summer that was the same color (Rangoon Red) and it to had some body parts that didn't match exactly. The original owner told me "it's always been like that”. So I really don't know. But again, the body shows age and wear as you'd expect. It has not been restored. Just shy of 76,500 original miles on the odometer. It is presently licensed, insured, and has a clean Minnesota title. Selling because I'm out of parking spaces, LOL. And it's just to small for a big guy like me, and no room for the wife and grandkids, so it rarely gets driven. I inherited my Dad's '51 Buick (that he bought new in '51) and need a space to put it! I'm not interested in any trades and am not entertaining offers. It is presently insured with an agreed to value with the insurance company for nearly triple the opening bid. It's pretty uncommon to find a base model that hasn't been hot rodded or had a V-8 dropped in, and finding one this solid is almost impossible. Assuming I did it right there should be a video below with a more extensive tour of the car and a "road test". While I would expect it to drive anywhere without issues be aware we've never driven it more than about 40 miles away to local car shows. Just taking age into account and that it's distance abilities haven't been tested it might be a good plan to trailer or truck it home. Deposit of $500 due at close of auction via Paypal, balance within 7 days via cashiers check, money wire transfer, or cash in person at pickup. Any check must clear before car and title are released. Sold as-is, where is, with no warranty. Ask questions if you have any. This is not an "on approval" sale, you bid, you buy. Buyer responsible to arrange pickup, transportation, etc. Glad to work with your transport provider to get the car on it's way to you. It's stored inside, easily accessible on a convenient main road. I am able to keep it put away in indoor storage (once paid for) until about November 1st or so, so you have time to arrange pickup or transportation.
