1970 Ford OtherThis was originally a 351-equipped, utomatic transmission car that has had a very strong, ell-running 429 motor and a 4-speed toploader manual transmission swapped into it. The swap was well-done, nd the car looks and drives as if this were the factory motor (maybe better!). The car itself is beautiful and presents very well, lthough as you may expect from a 45-year-old car, t's not perfect. We bought it in Asheboro, orth Carolina in July and drove it home to Orlando, lorida with no issues; with its 429, t literally would pass anything but a gas station! We did average about 13 mpg with it on the open road. It drives and rides beautifully, nd drives straight, ith no balance or alignment issues. In the words of the previous owner, It's been well-sorted mechanically." We would drive it anywhere (and have!), nd expect it to be reliable; it drives like a much newer car. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts crisply and smoothly; it gets a lot of looks from car people when they see an old LTD that's obviously a manual transmission! The interior is beautiful and, s best as we can tell, otally original, nd the hideaway headlamp covers work just fine. Just in driving it around Asheboro for the day we were there, uite a few people stopped us because they recognized "Junior's car." Junior had too many nice cars, nd that is also our problem; he may well have the same car-buying addiction that we do. Now for the not-so-perfect stuff: The factory air conditioning is intact, ut does not blow cold. The vinyl top will need replacement. There are some small areas of rust, s seen in the photos; nothing bad, nd the car is clean underneath. The speedometer does not work more often than it does work. There is a large crack in the middle of the dash, ommon on these older Fords. The paint is not perfect, ut it is quite nice. The radio works fine, nd the car is equipped with a VERY long, anually-adjustable antenna. The trunk is huge, nd unexpectedly deep. All four wheel covers are currently in the trunk; we, s the previous owner, hink it looks better with them off and the black "steelies" showing. She comes, s she currently sits, ith a full tank of high-octane, THANOL-FREE gasoline. Odometer reads 29,347. Our best guess is that she's on her first well-cared-for trip past 100,000.
