1965 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible

For a car originally conceived to provide dependable transportation, the Falcon has enjoyed quite a life as a coveted classic for restoration. It was a relatively compact car based on the standards of its day, and its reliable design would go on to influence several other Ford models to come. Featuring a strong 302 V8 and a top that goes down, it's great to see this 1965 Ford Falcon Futura convertible greet the present in good form, as these slick... Ford's will continue to rise in value in the future. At a time when most other cars remained substantially sized, Ford stuck to its guns and resisted the temptation to noticeably enlarge the Falcon over the years. While it's certainly no subcompact, it's a compact, sporty looking ride, with a squared off appearance that distinguishes it from its predecessors. The deep Race Red paint this '65 wears looks nice, showing no major blemishes, and the long stretches of brightwork on its sides add some effective additional detail. From the grille that sits over a table-level bumper in front, to the futuristic round taillights and "Falcon" scripted tail-panel in back, to the correct badges that adorn the front fenders, all of its chrome is present and accounted for, and it shines up great up against the vivid red paint. Some very adept exhaust modification work was done to provide the dual exhaust with just the right amount of extension below the rear bumper, and we have to admit, even that subtle adjustment looks very sporty. A contrasting power white convertible top has been added to this open-air cruiser for protection from uncooperative weather and it rises into place without issue, fits great and features a clear plastic rear window. The red vinyl interior has been neatly refreshed and looks great inside this little droptop. The seating shows practically zero wear up front and it doesn't appear anyone's ever even sat in back, and it all looks sharp over clean, plush red carpeting. The factory steering wheel sitting on its column is restored and very nice, and the aftermarket speakers in the kick panels are about the only deviation from factory configuration inside, pumping in tunes managed by the JVC AM/FM/Cassette head unit installed underneath the dash. The dash area is particularly impressive - its individual panels still line up and the broad speedometer and round gauges to either side of it remain clear and easily readable. The dash pad is free of any cracks and looks slick, and the beautiful door panels match the condition of the freshly upholstered seats. For a modestly sized car, there's a surprising amount of legroom in back - no contortions needed from your backseat passengers. The trunk area is also fairly spacious, its floor lined with signature Ford plaid mats, and it houses a full spare that's also covered with a matching mat. The engine compartment has been upgraded for a performance look, and if you were only looking at those pics on our site, you'd swear it was a Mustang pony. A strong 302-cubic inch V8 fits well between the shock towers, looking sharp with its finned Cobra air cleaner and matching valve covers, and it's brought to life through a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, and MSD ignition and distributor. The 302 has forged a strong reputation for its complaint-free durability - there are still a substantial number of them on the road many decades after they were first introduced and, true to form, the one on display here still starts promptly, teaming with a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission to make up a dependable, low-effort drivetrain. A look below will reveal an impressive undercarriage, with solid-looking floorpans and straight suspension components, and the shorty headers feed a throaty dual exhaust that sounds terrific. This sharp looking classic rides on a set of 15" stock Ford mags with center cap spinners outfitted with 205/70/15 Hankook blackwall tires.
