Description:

1968 Ford Mustang GTCS

Original 1968 GTCS California Special survivor type, original CA black plate car. Documented in GTCS registry, Marti report, owners card. I am the second owner, known history. Always a southern California car. Runs and drives, currently registered. Mostly original paint, all GTCS items are original and in place. Original AC PS car. Original interior, except for drivers seat. Dash pad is un-cracked and in great shape, always been covered with pad. Car has been under car port and garaged for most of its life. Original single exhaust. I believe the spare is original. Car was purchased by original owner for his wife's birthday. This was their only car for many years, but it got to point where she could not drive due to back issues, and finally he could not either due to health reasons. Retired couple used sparingly to go to market and doctor's appointment. Bittersweet when I was finally able to purchase this, as Barney did not want to see me drive off in it. In fact he stayed in his room and let his wife handle the transaction. I purchased a GTCS book from author Paul Newitt, and he signed it for them, which I gave to Barney. Original owner passed in 2015, sad to think of it.
Common C code 289-2V, 2.79 rear axle, C-4 automatic
Far from perfect. Runs rough as it has sparingly been driven. Could use tune up. Exhaust leak, I think muffler needs replacement. Original fiberglass tail light panel is cracked, repairable. Scratches, dings, throughout, stain on drivers fender (transmission fluid?) All lights and signals operational. I have acquired some NOS and excellent used items, which will not go with car. NOS tail light panel in box, NOS turn locks in Ford box, NOS California Special script in Ford box, original literature, original Cobra 289-302 valve covers (used), original used headlamps. IF buyer wants these parts, we can work out an agreement. But do not ask to purchase these parts separately, as if car does not sell, I will keep the parts.
There are nicer examples out there, many fine restored CTCS cars. There were less than 4,000 California Specials produced in 1968, and there are probably not a lot of survivor types (I know there are still some out there for sure) I would not recommend a long distance drive, as it has only made short trips recently, tires are aged. Cooling system is fine.
