1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Restomod

If someone gave you a blank check and told you to build the ultimate Mustang, it may very well look something like this awesome 1965 Ford Mustang Restomod fastback. Cost was clearly no object in this build and the result is a Mustang that looks incredible and drives even better. Featuring a powerfully built 289 V8 mated to an AOD transmission, all wrapped in miles-deep black paint on a body that sits on it's custom-built chassis, this is the fastback... they told you to worry about. Forget Shelby clones, everyone has one of those. When you show up in this spectacular, slick black fastback, people will definitely notice. You don't need flashy colors and stripes to stand out when the workmanship is this good, and the high-end, show-quality paint emphasizes the impeccable finish work that probably took hundreds of hours. There's a deep luster to the paint that really accentuated when it's out in the sun, and it's the kind of car that you will turn around and admire as you walk away from it. The color is an attention-grabber, so it will stand out at shows and you should probably get used to folks at stop lights and gas stations asking you, "Hey, can I take a selfie with your car before it steals my girlfriend?" Yeah, it's that nice. It also includes all the traditional Mustang goodness from the yellow-lensed GT fog lamps in the grille, to the Shelby hood scoop in the fiberglass hood, to the brand new chrome and trim everywhere on the car, and to the twin exhaust pipes poking just underneath the rear valence, this one looks ready for the show field. And it's also been shaved of all it's badges, which is a good thing, because that isn't some factory-spec grocery getter anymore. The judges would probably be pleased with the upgraded, bright red interior as well, and if they're not, then you pulled up to the wrong show. Fully restored using top-of-the-line TMI upholstery, it sticks fairly close to the same understated stock look that makes the exterior so successful. The fat wood-rimmed Moto-Lite steering wheel is the only part that gives away that this Mustang has a little more character under the hood, although the Lokar shifter for the AOD 4-speed transmission will surely raise some eyebrows as well. A Vintage Air A/C system has been neatly integrated under the dash and uses the factory controls, and an entire set of white-faced Auto Meter gauges take the place of the original bezel set-up. A fold-down rear seat makes this fastback eminently practical (note how neatly a set of racing slicks might fit back there) and the entire interior has been expertly insulated so if the next owner wanted to hide a modern stereo into the middle console, it would all sound great. Out back the trunk is finished with the same insulation found inside the cabin, along with a relocated battery, full-size spare tire, and reproduction plaid mats. All the significant upgrades are found under the hood, starting with a FAST fuel-injection powered 289 cubic inch V8. Bored 0.30 over during the restoration and augmented by a Comp Cam and a pair of Edelbrock aluminum heads, it barks and snarls like the nastiest Shelby ever built. They decided not to make it look stock, and instead gave it a modern look with Ford Racing black valve covers with red lettering, a matching open-element air cleaner, and neatly detailed inner fenders and firewall. Other upgrades include an MSD ignition, modern A/C compressor with a front-runner pulley system, Ron Davis cross-flow aluminum radiator, and a set of JBA headers that feed an H-pipe Flowmaster dual exhaust system. Scott's Hot Rod Shop provided the independent front suspension with tubular upper and lower control arms, there are adjustable coilovers at each corner, and out back the adjustable four-link suspension sits on an 8-inch Posi-traction rear end with 4.11 gears. Subframe connectors increase the strength of the entire chassis, and front disc brakes and power steering enhance the drive experience completely. Gorgeous 18-inch American Racing Shelby wheels are the perfect finishing touch, and wear staggered 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear BFGoodrich performance radials to finish the killer look. If you were building it for yourself, this is probably how you'd do it. So why wait, own this show-stopper today!
