1989 Ford Mustang GT

We are selling one of our Mustangs, as it's not being driven. We bought this car a few years ago from the original owner. The car was in 100% original condition when I bought it. This included under-glow lighting. If you aren't familiar with this, it was really popular in the early 90s. I have since removed it. My wife drove this Mustang as our others are manuals and she doesn't like driving them. I just purchased her a BMW convertible, so we are going to sell this car rather than have it sit.
We did some tasteful modifications and some maintenance items, but I have many of the original parts. I will list which items I do not have the original items.1. Exhaust - flowmaster Force II cat back - I do not have the original mufflers as they weren't worth saving. $4002. Gears - it has 3.73. It came with 2.73s and between the automatic and the weight of the convertible, it needed better gearing. $7003. Intake - the original intake was severely oxidized so I found an NOS Cobra upper and lower intake. $9004. Shocks/Struts - the car was still running on the original shocks and they had past their prime. The car now runs on bilsteins. I did not save the original shocks.5. Springs - while change the shocks/struts, I installed Eibach springs. I don't remember the model but it wasn't the super low ride. It did lower the car but also kept a decent ride (for a 30 year old car).6. Convertible top - the convertible top had dry rot. I had Superior Interiors install a new top last year. We had them save the rear window and dye it to match. This allowed us to keep the glass window. There was a defect in the top, so they just replaced it again at the end of March. We still haven't put it down yet. $12007. Door Lock Actuators - these always fail, I replaced them with NOS parts $2508. Headlights - these are NOS headlights, not cheap knockoffs. The set of 6 sell for $1200 on Ebay, if you can find them.9. Taillights - these are the cleanest LX tailights I could find. The white cheese graters come with the car. $20010. Wheels - These are period correct ROH wheels. I would be more than happy to negotiate a deal with the winning bidder for me to keep these and I will put the original turbines on with new tires. These wheels are impossible to find. Between refinishing the wheels and the 17" BFG tires, I have $2200 into them. The turbines have white paint in the inserts. I don't believe this was an option on the Mustangs but was on the Thunderbirds. The owner said they came on the car but I don't know if that's true. The surfaces are still the same color.11. Radio - original radio failed, so I found an original 1989 Radio and it's in the car. $7512. Spoiler - we added the rear spoiler. I do have the pieces to the luggage rack that were removed, should you want to put that back on. $17513. Power Steering Pump - all ford power steering pumps whine, the original one was really loud so I replaced it with a ford rebuilt. $10014. Brakes - front rotors, calipers and pads are all NOS. I saved the calipers and they are included. Rear shoes were replaced with NOS Ford parts as well. $45015. Fluids - coolant and transmission were flushed Fall of 17. Rear diff fluid was done when the gears were done. Power steering was done when the pump was repalced. Oil has been done Spring and Fall, regardless of how few miles were driven. $30016. Battery - I just replaced the battery in March as the battery was dead, even after being on a battery tender all winter. $12517. Convertible top boot - I had to buy two different boots, one to get the right color boot and one to get the missing snaps and the storage container. $35018. Rear Windows - i replaced the motors on both, so they work properly. $150
You can see by the list, that I don't cut corners. I am a Mustang guy who currently owns 6 of them. I always buy NOS parts when I can. This is a great car but it was my wife's car to drive. I have an 04 Terminator when I want to drive a convertible. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere. That being said, it is still a 30 year old car. It does need paint. Ford had an issue with their clear-coat back in the day, so the clear coat is peeling in different spots and if you look at the picture of the passenger side door, you will see the paint has flaked off. This is another known issue with Fords. I have a 1995 Mustang that has the same flaking issue. There isn't any rust on this car. The strut towers are mint! I took a picture of the driver side strut tower. The passenger side looks the same, just no way to get a picture of it.
The car can use some other minor items. The seat belt sleeves are cracking. Again, very normal for these cars but I haven't spent any time chasing some down. There are tons of reproduction parts available if you are okay with repro parts. The seat belts don't retract all of the way. Again, very normal on these cars now that they have aged.
The last two cars I have sold on Ebay, I have had to deal with non-paying bidders. I don't get it. Do they bid to feel cool??? Please only bid if you are serious. Please email me with any questions. If you are the winning bidder, that means you own it. It doesn't mean you won the right to inspect the car. If you want to see it, ask and we can try to coordinate a time.
I will happily help with shipping but all of the cost and coordination is on the buyer. I do own an enclosed trailer and we can discuss delivery in the Northeast. Email me if this is something that you might want.
Add up what I spent on parts, my reserve is lower than that total and that doesn't calculate in my time or what I paid for the car.
