Viva Las Vegas Autos Presents . . .

One of the most rare and sought after Mustangs in the world are the K-Code high performance versions, whether it's a Coupe, a Fastback or a Convertible, most are only in the hands of serious collectors and museums. Finding a K-Code convertible that's in SHOW QUALITY condition like this car, that's just like finding a needle in the hay stack....and you just found it. So as you review the nearly 200 high resolution pictures and videos showing every detail of this incredibly rare convertible, pay close attention to the extreme details associated with the build and quality of workmanship this car shows everywhere you look, from top to bottom and everywhere in between.

Viva Las Vegas Autos Known History . . .

The stories these cars could tell are always fascinating to me and I hope they can be to our buyers. I spend countless hours on the internet hunting for rare and collectible automobiles. This car popped up on a classified site so I sent an email to the seller. The reply came back that the listing seller had just listed it for a friend and he was no longer handling the sale of the car. He did go as far to let me contact the selling owner who lived in Southern Utah. The car was just listed as a 1966 Ford Mustang GT Convertible with no reference to its VIN number or other pertinent information. The few pictures he shared were plenty enough for me to jump in my truck and with trailer behind me, spend two hours driving from Las Vegas to St. George, Utah. When we arrived in his Ritzy neighborhood, I instantly new we would be looking at a car as nice as it looked in the pictures. Pulling up to his house (mansion) with a 6 car garage plus the 45' Motorhome attached garage, I was already excited to see this fine car. Sitting in the driveway already for us to view was this beautiful Springtime Yellow Convertible with the top down looking like a diamond. Flawlessly detailed in an out. I could tell this car had received a concourse restoration as the body, paint and interior were a pure delight. I dropped to my knees to put my head underneath the car and was equally astounded. I could serve a meal off the bottom of the car.
Meanwhile, all this time that I was amused and delighted with the SHOW QUALITY appearance of the car, this whole time, I had just assumed that the car was a standard A-Code GT convertible. Even with his high asking price for this show car, I was a serious player on this car. When I got up off my knees from looking under the car, my business partner had opened the hood and was already looking at the pristine engine bay. So, I stood up to admire the same open hood space. Instantaneously, my inspecting eyes went straight focus to the VIN on the inner driver's fender cowl. Like a GLARING BEACON, the "K" in the VIN caught my eye instantly. I gulped silently with excitement and grabbed my partner to walk away from the selling owner to let him in on what he was unaware of at that point. "We're looking at a "K-Code" convertible GT." I explained to him. For the price the seller was asking, it was an unquestionable deal... it was a good deal as an A-Code, but a crazy whip out your cash instant deal as a K-Code. So we made the deal...before we even decided to put up the top. Funny thing there, the selling owner decided to tell us about his ownership at that point.
He had bought it 17 years before. Never washed it once with water and had never seen the convertible top up ever in the 17 years he owned it. He never even looked at it when he bought the car. He only drove it to local shows and never in bad weather. When we put the top up, it was the first time in 17 years that he had known, and the first time he saw the color of the top since the boot had been on for the length of his ownership. He had bought it from the owner that spent no expense restoring the car. That was obvious by the quality and he had made no alterations to the car during his 17 years of ownership. The prior owner, as far as we can see from the binder full of documents, spent 2 years building the car. There are not many receipts in the binder, just items that were part of the build and a few minor receipts.
Now if finding this K-Code Convertible wasn't enough, I notice another car in his gigantic garage under cover on a four post lift in front the 45' motorhome. It had the shape of a Fastback Mustang. So I asked, what's that under the cover? He replied, a "1968 Ford Mustang Fastback GT 4 speed with Shelby dual quad carburetors." "Can I see it too?"" Well needless to say, Thank God I had a whole lot of cash with me and we went home with both cars. If you look at our other auctions, your see the Red 1968 Fastback that's a pure beauty too.

    • Viva Las Vegas Autos Preparations . . .

Whenever we buy a classic auto, our first steps of getting the car ready for market is a thorough visual, mechanical and functional inspection. We checked everything we could see for possible repairs or replacements and found nothing needed for full functionality. This car is 100% incredible and needing NOTHING but a serious collector to enjoy this ultra rare K-Code GT Convertible. The only thing we had to change, and it wasn't because the existing tires were bad, was the brand new BF Goodrich Redline Radials we installed to replace the perfectly good white wall tires we bought the car with. Yes, we think they are worth it and really set off the look of the car.

OurBuild Assessment as far as we can determine. . .

This 1966 Ford Mustang GT Convertible K-Code is truly a Show Quality build. Now, let's talk about the build both mechanically and cosmetically. The build looks to have taken place back in 1999 through 2002. The body sheet metal from tip to stern looks to be original with no patch panels and have perfect alignment. The paint is show quality and was obviously laid over pure metal and not painted over top of old paint. If there are flaws in the paint, they are superficial if you can even find them. The doors and all panels line up with precision. The underside of the car is painted with the same finish as the topside and only shows a few chips of paint. Obviously the car was painted on a rotisserie unit. The painted undercarriage in Springtime Yellow is NOT as the factory would have painted the car. The correct factory finished were either Red Zinc Oxide or black undercoat, but the Springtime Yellow undercarriage is just so incredible, we didn't choose to coat it with red oxide. All other components are correctly finished under the car. As for the K-Code drivetrain; this car is not a numbers matching car. The engine is not a K-Code 271hp 289ci motor, but a modified built 302 dynoed at 291 horse power mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that originally would have been a 4 speed manual transmission that sends smooth power back to the Currie 9" rear axle. The car is STILL a very rare K-Code Convertible, but none of the drivetrain is original to the car. It is a more powerful and reliable drivetrain by all means. The drive-ability on highways is exceptional with the 5-speed manual transmission. Then with the power disc brakes, the power steering and Vintage Air Conditioning, this K-Code is a pure delight for any road-trip anywhere you want with comforts of modern cars. Essentially, it's more like having a "Pro-Touring" drivetrain with visuals of a factory original car. Notice when you see the fuel delivery system, a Holly Quick Fuel QFT carburetor. one of the finest fuel delivery systems out on the market. Performance like Fuel Injection without it being FI. As for the interior, everything looks a feels like brand new. Seats are fully restored, everything looks and feels like brand new. The seals throughout the car were fully replaced and felts too. The windows and locks work like new. The convertible top is a manual top and is in perfect shape. A Real Zero Disappointment Car.

      Cheers

Viva Las Vegas Autos Note from the Owner. . .

I am a "used car dealer" but before that, I'm an automobile enthusiast. I love original, rare and high quality modified vintage and modern cars. Over the past 15 years I've been in business, I have come to appreciate an expanding selection of high-demand, high value vehicles as well. I specialize in and I am always on the lookout for cars and trucks that were cherished by their previous owners.

I have an experienced eye for quality and I've discovered that my preferred buyers can instantly discern such a vehicle and I have therefore, built my business and reputation around finding these kinds of cars for this type of customer.Super low miles and/or gentle ownership are strict requirements but a car must do something for me on a personal level if there is any hope of convincing you, the buyer, that this is an above average, exceptional vehicle. If nothing about the car excites me, it probably won't do much for you either and I would soon be out of business.

With just four employees and no sales people, I realize how unusual a "dealership" like mine may be at a first glance. It has taken great care and effort to create such an organization and often, an unusually high investment in a particular car we are about to list. To sell the best it is critical to have a trusted expert in my corner. First we do an exhaustive 130 point inspection on each and every vehicle and hope nothing escapes our methodical investigation. Experience has shown that everything I spend making a car truly "right" will come back to me not only with a higher selling price, but a happy customer that says good things about Viva Las Vegas Autos. Moreover; it allows us to describe the car with ease and confidence, something that simply is not possible unless we think it is true. If major issues are found or the cost of fixing the car the way it should be makes it too expensive to sell, my choice is an easy one. I simply absorb a few hundred dollars loss for my trouble and sell it at auction so you don't get a headache over the vehicle.

After the vehicle is fully checked over and made whole at any level it needs to be, we researches its history, documents documenting originality and authenticity. Historical significance, rarity, special features, possible modifications and much more are used to accurately describe the vehicle with integrity and honesty. Most important for the potential buyer are the 100 to 200 high resolution pictures that I take myself. The pricey equipment I use would be right at home in the hands of the very best professional photographers and I've developed a logical format that walks you around the entire vehicle with close-up shots of every square inch. I provide detailed views of the interior, under the hood and then put it on a lift to show the undercarriage and confirm that the beauty of the car you are considering is not merely skin deep. Even our detailers are enthusiastic about the cars they meticulously clean. Reconditioning can sometimes take several as we do all that we can within reason to get our vehicles in tip top condition visually and cosmetically. Way more than just a cheap detail....Our details are more like refurbishing to as close to new as we can possibly get our vehicles

Usually, I'll also include a high definition video that shows the car doing its thing. If it's a fast car, we film it going fast. If it's a 4x4 you'll see it crawling up a hill. In every case you will hear things like a rumbling exhaust, working sound system and watch gauges operational as well.

No "dealer, "? on-line or in the real world, takes it to this level. No other seller or organization provides you, the buyer, with so much information. I do this because it is the only way I can convince a person; often a world away, unable to touch or feel their purchase that my vehicle is for real and what I say is an honest assessment. All the above is necessary for me to stay in business while keeping integrity intact.I want every buyer to be happy and I need glowing feedback on eBay. To accomplish that I need satisfied customers that are as thrilled with their purchase as I was when I bought it.

If you have any questions at all, please call me on my cell at: 702-353-7500. If your inquiry is sincere and your offerserious, you'll find me the most accommodating business partner you've ever dealt with. If you call or e-mail asking for my reserve or "what is my bottom line" I will be looking for ways to politely end the conversation. Until you are ready to actually make an offer, I will happily quote you a liberal suggested retail price - a number we both know will not buy the car so, don't waste your time, or mine. I am after all, a "used car dealer.”
