1965 Ford Mustang

In case you haven't noticed every single early Mustang fastback we've listed has sold in very short order; the 2+2 is definitely red hot! This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback takes a slightly different path keeping the awesome fastback shape and putting a resto-mod twist on it that works a lot better than you'd expect from the satin black paint to the cackling 289 under the hood. We'll admit that we didn't expect to like this sinister-looking fastback as much as we do. In all honesty the satin black paint works rather well on the sleek Ford's shape adding a menacing look that's both low maintenance and suddenly very much in fashion. And it's difficult to get satin black paint to look uniform like this so the guys doing the spraying obviously knew their stuff. Along the way they added a hood scoop that's a little bit like a Shelby shaved some of the trim gave it a billet grille and topped it all off with a set of gloss black stripes that are a very cool inverse contrast to what we're so used to seeing. It's a trick look that works rather well. Nice chrome bumpers sparkle against the satin black paint and it proudly wears '289' badges on the front fenders. The interior is much more in line with a 1965 Mustang with black standard buckets a wood-rimmed wheel and an authentic vibe. The seat covers and carpets are pretty recent and in great shape and with fresh materials under the seats they're all-day comfortable. The five-gauge instrument panel was exclusive to the GT in 1965 but this one has been filled with cool white-faced gauges that are otherwise pretty similar to the originals. Under the dash there's a period-correct A/C unit that's very much like what you might have received from the dealer although it's now backed by modern components. The original radio is gone replaced by a modern AM/FM digital unit that fits in the original spot so no cutting was needed and it powers a set of speakers in the rear side panels for decent sound. The fold-down rear seat makes the fastback practical as well as stylish and the trunk is finished with a correct plaid mat.Numbers guys will note that this car carries a period correct 289 that you would have found in a fastback. With more satin black details the engine is a great match for the menacing fastback bodywork complete with matching valve covers and air cleaner. There's a giant aluminum radiator up front to keep things cool and an Edelbrock "Torker 289" intake manifold and matching 4-barrel carburetor help build plenty of horsepower. It's backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and an 8-inch rear end and the dual exhaust system has a wonderful V8 burble at any speed. The front suspension offers tubular A-arms coil-over shocks and rack-and-pinion steering so it feels quite modern on the road and front disc brakes are confidence-inspiring. The ride height is just right and it's sitting on blacked-out Halibrand-style wheels with spinners and a set of 205/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. This is probably as affordable as fastbacks are going to get and with some cool details this one will stand out in a crowd without losing its beloved personality.
