Description:

1960 Ford Thunderbird

1960 Thunderbird former show car. Mild custom done in the late 60's early 70's. The Golden Gem toured the New York area until 1984 when the car was transported to Southern California. Original owner family the car was given to the son who did the custom work on the car.
Custom work on the car included rosewood inserts, 8 track stereo with FM, safety console in the roof, additional instrumentation on the center console and the engine compartment, Cibe headlights, hood scoop, fiberglass with hand formed aluminum pan, decked trunk (cable operated trunk release latch), modified tail lights, remote control exterior mirror, dual power operated radio antennas, vinyl top, safety warning in overhead console (handbrake, seat belt, low fuel, emergency flasher), and front and rear radio speakers.
The documentation I have includes the original owners handbook, original shop manual, last known invoice for work on the car and some insurance paperwork for the car.
Engine work included balanced and ported 352 cubic inch motor. Head milled, Judson electronic magneto and a Paxton supercharger was added although it is not on the car now. Supposedly made 420 horsepower.
The metal on the dash is exceptional - instrument and glove box door is very nice and the chrome bezels around the instruments is also very nice. Seats look OK and obviously it needs a new dash pad. Has the fender skirts still in place. All the glass is good - no cracks or breaks. I have not tried to start the motor but I did use a 7/8 inch socket on the crankshaft bolt and the engine turns freely.
Ebay does not have a title description for States that do not issue titles. This car was originally from the Buffalo New York area. And as most of you know New York does not issue titles for these old cars. The car is sold with a bill of sale from the original owner and I will also include a bill of sale with the car.
As I have owned over 150 Thunderbirds in the 48 years I have owned and restored these cars I am in to original factory cars. Custom cars are not my interest. It would be a shame to part this car out so perhaps someone out there can appreciate this car for what is used to be and hopefully restore it back to the custom car that it is. Hey, the flood lights that were used to showcase the car when it was on tour are still in the trunk.
The car rolls freely. Transportation is the responsibility of the purchaser. I can provide some information on transportation companies that I have had good results with. This is a no reserve auction and the highest bidder owns the car.
