Description:

1987 Ford Mustang Scarlet Red Bodyside Molding

THIS RARE MUSTANG IS BEING SOLD TO HELP PAY THE COSTS OF ITS OWNER'S CANCER TREATMENTS.

In February, 1988, the owner of this Mustang went with her father to the local Ford dealership where he purchased the brand new convertible saying, ". . . if we keep this car for 20 years and keep the mileage low, it will double in price." Her father used the car in local parades and drove it 300 miles round trip to her college graduation, but basically the car was covered and locked in the garage for 30 years. When her father died in 1999, he left the car to his daughter. She continued to store the car until 2018 when she developed cancer and asked me to sell the car to help pay for her radiation treatments. I agreed and enlisted the help of a friend of mine who is a Mustang expert to get the car ready to sell. My friend ordered a Marti Report that provided the following information:

1. The car was built in Dearborn in December, 1986.

2. Scarlet Red Paint, Ford #6236-A.

3. Mustang GT 2-door convertible.

4. White convertible top.

5. Scarlet Red Bodyside Molding (793 Mustangs built with these Paint/Trim Codes).

6. 3.08 Traction-Lok Rear Axle

7. 5-speed Manual Overdrive Transmission.

(The Complete Marti Report is included with this auction)

The Mustang expert provided the following explanation of how he went about getting the car ready to sell. "It is only original once." This is what guided us when it came time to wake this car up after being idle 30 years. All original parts were kept for documentation. Great care was taken to assure that we did not damage anything getting it running. Gas tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter were changed and fuel lines flushed. After the oil and filter change, the distributor was removed and the oiling system primed using a drill motor for several minutes (60 psi). Light oil was sprayed into each cylinderand the motor was turned over by hand several times. New Motorcraft sparkplugs, Motorcraft belt, Motorcraft battery and a new Wix air filter were installed. The original air filter was in perfect shape and along with any other parts changed, saved. The engine started on the first try. The air conditioning system still had some pressure. To be on the safe side, a certified technician evacuated the system, leak tested it, and serviced it with fresh oil and the correct R-12 Freon. A two mile test drive confirmed everything works and performs, well, like a new car.Car still has the factory P225/60VR Radial Black Sidewall Tires.
