1965 Ford Mustang K-Code

This 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe is a factory K-Code model that was delivered new in September 1964 in Trenton, New Jersey. The car remained with its original owner until 1991 and is powered by its original HiPo 289ci V8 paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. The second owner conducted a refresh in the 1990s that included a glass-out repaint in the original Prairie Gold Metallic finish. Several Shelby engine components fitted by the original owner were also replaced at that time with the factory K-Code items. Though service records are minimal, several documents are included in the sale including oil change receipts showing 19k miles in 1977.
Manufactured in September 1964, this early example shares many features unique to the 1964 1/2 model and is one of just over 13k factory K-codes per the Mustang registry.
The odometer shows 24,199 miles and is believed correct based on the service documentation.
Well preserved details include its factory Studio Sonic Reverb radio unit, Rally Pac, cardboard glovebox liner, factory grease pencil markings on the floor metal, and a handwritten build sheet in the driver's footwell. Service tags included in the sale document mileage up to 19,300 miles.
The transmission, driveshaft, and rear assembly were removed, cleaned, and refinished by the previous owner, and the factory 3.89 rear end was replaced with a 3.50 ratio unit. The car features the unique three-muffler setup used on late 1964 1/2-early 1965 models.
The car is offered with documentation including the original owner's manual with the owner registration card, New Jersey inspection notice, and several inspection slips. The service slips date from 1968 to 1977 and go up to 19,330 miles.
