1968 Ford Mustang High Country Special

The 1968 Ford Mustang High Country Special is a limited edition package that is starting to come into its own as one of the rarest and sportiest first-gen pony cars around. With all of the factory Shelby touches, low production numbers, correct 289 V8, and solid restoration investment, this coupe is a true pony car royalty. The Shelby-like appearance of the '68 High Country Special is no accident. The HCS was available only for three years, but this final year was the most unique. It was based on supercharged GT500 prototype coupe that didn't see the light of day. That didn't stop western dealers for asking for a special package to heat up sales. Only 251 examples were produced, and so they are quite coveted today. This example looks nice thanks to a full-restoration around mid-life and the right investments since then. The modern clearcoat respray of the correct Sunlit Gold paint really helps the precious metal elements pop in the sunshine. All the correct HCS elements are still present and accounted for, including the blacked-out grille, Lucas fog lamps, hood locks, Shelby-style quarter panel scoops, pop off gas cap, and fiberglass tail with built-in spoiler. Correct stripes run down its flanks, and you even have the special HCS logo on the rear scoops. The lighting is even cool with the turn signals imbedded in the Deluxe hood, and the long taillights borrowed from earlier T-birds. The code 2Y gold interior is another great mark of distinction. After all, if you took the tone of the carpeting and mixed it with the gold seats, door panels, and headliner, you'd end up with a color like the deep exterior gold. So this has a well-coordinated palette inside and out â€" and that's how this car was born! In fact, there seems to be a very conscious effort to keep this special edition looking quite original with features like the Deluxe steering wheel and full gauge panel maintaining a preserved appearance. Even the AM radio is still on display! This is an original C-code car, and so you'll be happy to lift the hood and see the 289 cubic-inch V8 in the engine bay. In fact, this is believed to be original to the car. It has a bold presentation with its correct blue block, " Ford" valve covers, and correct air topper. More than just look correct, there have been some great investments in the motor. The top end was rebuilt about 8k miles ago, and there's a new alternator, gas tank, and other supporting components. Even the three-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt only about 5k miles ago. Plus, power steering, power brakes, and modern tires on classic Ford GT wheels make the driving experience an easy one. This is an exceptionally rare High Country Special, and to help you tell its story, this coupe comes with a Marti Report and title documentation. So when something this distinct is offered at an obtainable price, you know you need to hurry on this pony car. Call today!!!
