1969 MACH 1 428 CID SUPER COBRA JET

This is a real 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet that was born in San Jose California over 45 years ago, a deluxe Marti-Report, VIN codes, numerous original tags and part stamping codes verify this. This incredible muscle car has been given a complete rotisserie restoration. All original sheet metal is covered in gorgeous House of Kolor Shimrin 2 Stratta Blue metallic/pearl paint that makes this Mustang one of the beautiful muscle cars you’ve ever seen. This car is both a show stopper and also a great investment since these rare Mustangs continue to appreciate in value.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT

This is an R-code Mustang that came from the factory with a “Drag Pack Option”, which means the engine bay is stuffed with a true year-correct 428 Super Cobra Jet V8 ram air. The engine has been completely rebuilt and has only been driven a few miles. The engine is huge, it is completely detailed and looks fantastic. Ford ‘FE’ engines from this era were underrated from the factory to get around insurance concerns, so the impressive 335 hp that was advertised by the factory was really producing over 400+ hp. As shipped from the factory, this Super Cobra Jet engine has a more durable reciprocating assembly (crank, rods, pistons, wrist pins, flywheel/flexplate, and harmonic balancer) that was designed to withstand the higher RPM requirements of drag racing. The car has the original correct ‘X’ style engine fuel pump and original power steering components. The original style exhaust, including the original exhaust manifolds, have been ceramic coated and look great under the car. There are several new upgrades to the engine compartment, these are a Vintage air-conditioning system, new Edelbrock Carburetor, Mallory Unilite Distributor, Mallory Coil, Chrome Alternator and New Radiator. T

DRIVE TRAIN

You already know the engine bay could win awards on its own just by its presentation, but take some time to look over the details in the undercarriage photos. Whenever the original factory markings were found during the rebuilding process, these marking were documented and reconstructed once the new undercarriage was finished. It's mated to the original Ford four-speed manual top loader transmission with original part tag. These transmissions were renowned for their extreme durability and this one has been updated with a new clutch pack. The power is sent to the road via the original Ford nine-inch rear end that came from the factory with a Detroit Locker 3.91 gear ratio. The locked nine-inch rear end with 3.91 gears was a factory “Drag Pack Option” that when ordered turned the already impressive Cobra Jet Mach 1 models into SUPER Cobra Jets. This rebuilt original rear end housing now holds a new Eaton 3.51 posi-style differential. The Eaton differential improves the SCJ’s drivability versus the locked rear differential (locked units were designed for drag racing). The Eaton differential could easily be switched out for a Detroit Locker if that is ever desired. In addition to the Detroit Locker, ordering the “Drag Pack Option” triggered a few other upgrades as well, including the 428 Super Cobra Jet engine, an extra engine oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator, and relocation of the driver's side horn to the passenger side of the radiator core support to make room for the extra oil cooler. All of these items remain on the car just as it was originally sold to Vels Parnelli Jones Ford dealership in March of 1969.

OPTIONS

This sportsroof Mustang is a 63C code Mach 1 with Cobra Jet ram-air shaker. You'll enjoy reviewing the copy of the original window sticker because it will show you the list of options such as Tinted Glass, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Deluxe Belts/Warning Light and Sport Deck Rear fold down seat.

INTERIOR

As you look inside, you'll notice the original front bucket seats and Sport Deck Rear fold down seat frames are now covered with matte black leather & suede inserts, stainless steel grommets, and royal blue stitching. The dash, center console, and door inserts match the black and stainless grommet style. The original Deluxe black seat belts are now embroidered with the name Super Cobra Jet. The dash also holds a new digital stereo that has a backup camera which can be switched on when needing to back up. A new one-piece black headliner covers the inside roof. The wiring harnesses in the interior and frontend are all new American Autowire product that are exact replicas of the original harnesses.

SUSPENSION & BRAKES

Ford sweetened the combination of the Mach 1 features and 428 SCJ engine by automatically getting Ford's HD competition suspension. This meant it came with beefed up the front spindles, shocks, shock towers, and anti-roll bar to make sure that this Mustang could handle the extra muscle. The rear shocks have just been upgraded to Gabriel air adjustable shocks to ensure the larger rear tires have plenty of clearance. Ford also added dual exhaust with quad chrome tips. The brakes have now been upgraded to Wilwood six-piston calipers/discs in the front and Wilwood four piston calipers/discs in the rear. The brakes are assisted by a new power brake booster and master cylinder. The brake fluid runs through all new brakes lines front to rear.

RIMS & TIRES

The original F70x14 White Letter Tires have been updated to provide new style and enhanced performance. The front rims are 18” Foose Knuckles and are fitted with new General 245x40ZRx18 tires. The rear rims are 18” Foose Knuckles and are fitted with new General 275x40ZRx18 tires. A spare rear Foose Knuckle 18" rim andGeneral 275x40ZRx18tire are included with the Mustang
