I want to stress at the outset that you must read all checkout instructions and any other terms of this sale BEFORE bidding. Any deviation from my stated terms must be discussed with me via “ask seller a question” BEFORE you bid. Having gotten that out of the way:
Up for auction is this beautiful 1961 Ford Starliner 2 dr., no-post sport coupe. If you’re looking for a trailer queen show car or a daily driver then this car’s not for you. If, however, you’re in the market for an affordable, very highly regarded classic collector car that you can relaxingly drive on a beautiful day or draw a crowd at a local cruise-in or gas pump, then you need to consider this car. It gets lots of love wherever it goes.
Let's cover the mechanicals first. It's powered by a strong running 352 cubic inch FE big block engine with optional tripower carburetion. My understanding is that this option was not installed at the factory but instead was a Ford manufactured but dealer installed option. It features an original Ford manufactured aluminum intake manifold, topped with a matched set of Holley 2300 series carbs stamped with Ford part numbers. This setup is complimented with correct FOMOCO cast iron "Shorty" headers. The transmission is the Borg Warner T-86 3 speed overdrive column shifted manual. It is freshly rebuilt and shifts flawlessly. A really cool feature of this transmission is that if you're cruising along in overdrive and simply press the accelerator to the floor it will automatically downshift to low 3rd (passing gear) without having to press in the clutch or move the shift lever - just like an automatic! Even cooler is that this action also causes the outboard carbs to open up, delivering a rather impressive burst of power. Finishing out the drivetrain is a 3:56 ratio differential. The wheels are a 5 piece (including the spare) set of original 1972 dated Ford Magnum 500's in fantastic condition. SELLERS NOTE: The photo showing the engine with air cleaner was taken some time ago and had incorrect 390 decals on the valve covers. I include this photo only to show the original Ford air cleaner included with this sale.
Now let's talk about the body and interior. Again, this is an unrestored, largely unmolested car. It has been recently repainted, probably within the last few years. The paint is not show quality but presents itself very nicely at cruise-ins, shows and gatherings, probably an 8 out of 10. Chrome and brightwork has been redone. The wing window assemblies have been rebuilt and rechromed using all new seals. Door seals have been replaced as needed. All glass, with the exception of the rear window, has been replaced using all new seals. The interior is all original and for a 57 year old vehicle it's in excellent condition but is showing some age. No rips or tears to the upholstery, door panels or headliner. Carpet is a recent replacement and is nice. Dash has the original paint and with the new chrome pieces, looks very nice.
In summary, what is being presented here is a highly regarded, highly collectible classic car with significant investment growth potential. This is not some chopped up, amateurishly modified, improperly molested "project". As it is, this vehicle is one of the more popular cars at any gathering my wife and I go to. It gets lots of love wherever it goes and It generally takes about 20 minutes to get fuel at the gas station because people always want to inquire about it. It needs nothing else to be enjoyed right now however if you wish to take it to another level, there is room for that also without breaking the bank.
Again, as I have stated, this vehicle is somewhere between a daily driver and a show queen so it does have some MINOR issues. If you're looking for a 1961 Starliner that is in perfect condition inside and out you will pay between $50,000 - $100,000 dollars for it. If you want a beautiful 1961 Starliner with some minor age issues, then this is the car for you. Good luck in your hunt.
