1940 Mercury 8 Coupe-Sedan
100+ Pictures - VIDEO walk around
Hey, thanks for taking the time to stop by and check out this beautifully restored Jet Black 1940 Mercury. These cars are pretty rare in today's market, very hard to find, obviously the Cousin to the '40 Fords. What you are looking at is a 1940 Mercury 8 Sedan-Coupe, it is a beautiful car, and they do not come up for sale that often, especially in this condition. This is a true Gentleman's Hot Rod, mild custom, totally turnkey, that you can take your wife or girlfriend out, or maybe she might let you ride with her, lol. You are going to see about 100 photos in and out, also video, so hopefully it helps you. This car needs new home, the previous owners loved this car very much, they have been the care takers of this rig for the last 6 years, but it is time for them to down size and do some other things. Sure they will be sad to see it go, but also excited that hopefully the next folks who get it will have just as much fun as they did, taking out the grand kids, going to car shows, road trips, and just reliving great memories. Previous owners had it since around 1998, and aid a full frame off restoration on this very tradition Hot Rod. It currently has 13,154 on the odometer since the rebuild.
This car came out of Eastern, Oregon, around the Pendleton area, which is famous for the Pendleton Roundup, beautiful area, and prime area for vintage barn finds like this before it was gone through. If you have ever been in that area before, it is very dry over there, which really saved this car, and explains its very solid beautiful original body. The car went through a frame off restoration during 1999-2000. If you scroll down through the pictures at the end, I show lots of photos, before and after, many receipts, brochures and photos. It did get a respray in 2014 as well, with pictures as well. They just wanted to freshen it up at that point, it had gotten a few rock chips from being driving for the last 15 years so it deserved it. The car is very nice, as you can see in the pictures, and there is a 16 minute video, were I show you inside and out, please watch that video. The car is turnkey, very reliable, it is the kind of car you could fly in and drive it home if you wanted to, most people will ship, but it is that type of car.
I love the interior in this car, very tasteful, just has a really nice look. The Instrument cluster is just beautiful in this car love the art deco styling for sure, all restored, whole dash all the way across is just awesome. Running the original Steering wheel, with GM tilt column. The seats have very little wear, everything matches, door panels, headliner, carpet carpet all looks great. You will see it is running Vintage air as well, never thought I would say this, but I love AC in these old cars, I used to never care, but that was when I was a kid! Today, AC all the way!. Everything works inside, non smoker, all the gauges work, the one that is not reading correctly is the amp gauge, never has for some reason but it does work. The car does not have a radio, if you want to add that someday you can. The doors shut nicely, everything lines up very nice. When getting out of the drivers side, you have to push the handle down a little harder then I like, that may need to be adjusted at some point, but it does open fine, just something I noticed. Overall, check out all the photos of the interior below.
The condition of this car is very nice. It looks great, all steel original body in great condition. The doors open and close nice and line up great, hard to find on a vehicle like this. The front and rear fenders are all steel, running boards are steel as well. Nice and straight when you look down the sides, the fenders look great as well. The paint is in very nice condition not many cars can wear black, a couple little tiny chips, that have been touched, up but darn few honestly, you would have to look very close on this car to find any major flaws, it looks great. I tried to point out the most obvious things. The glass all looks in good shape, the doors open and close, and windows all open as they should, they are manual roll up. The paint I would say on it was a 9.5 out of 10 for a very nice car that can be driven and shown. Overall, it is very presentable and looks great for a very nice driver, parade car, but I hope someone gets out and really gets to drive it, don't make it a trailer queen.
The engine is a 1995 Ford 351w Crate motor, purchased from Aldrich Motorsports, out of Portland, Oregon. It is not a high horsepower engine, this car was built to cruise and be reliable, but she does have plenty get up and go believe me she is really fun to drive, and sounds awesome!. The transmission is a Rebuilt early 1990's Mercury AOD. Rearend is a 1957 Ford 9" Posi-traction, Mustang Front Clip, Ground Hawg. Flowmaster Mufflers, all the exhaust is tucked in real nice and looks great and sound great. The gas tank, has been dipped and painted, and running an electric fuel pump in the tank. Wheels are original power coated, so glad they went with a tradional style wheel, with Mercury hubcaps and trim rings. The 1940 Instrument cluster, was restored by United Speedometer Service in 2000, and has Encore gauges. Running Power Thunderbird Rack and Pinion Power steering, also installed power brakes. Other upgrades, Fexolite varispeed control module for engine fan, VDO temp sender, serp blet idle polley, fuel filter, emergency brake calbe,s heim joints from arm, 2 LED front marker lights as well. All the lights work, inside and out, AC works, just a nice put built car.

I've sold classic cars on eBay since 2003. During the past 14 years, I have sold around 950 classic cars sold online through eBay, Craigslist and BringATrailer auctions to buyers across the country and internationally, including Europe, Dubai, Australia, Japan and Brazil, just to name a few.
What I love about these old cars, is that I get to own some of my favorite cars one at a time, I have turned this passion into a business, but for me it is an awesome time to enjoy the cars themselves. I've enjoyed getting to know other car enthusiast from all over the Continent, especially some that have become very good friends of mine because of our love for cars.
If you would like to call me and talk about the car, that would be great. I would love to help you out. Feel free to schedule a day to come out before you bid or send a friend, inspector or transporter. Although I always try to detail every nuance with the vehicles, it is always better if possible to see it with your own eyes. I am close to a major airport and many transportation options.
These are classic vehicles with lots of history. They are used, and not perfect. They don't have warranties or guarantees. Each vehicle is sold as-is. There are many reputable inspectors in and around Salem and I will accommodate their schedules. I try to give a good description and post at least 75 photos so you can get a good gauge of what it is, and isn't. Thanks, Jason 503-910-2085
