NO RESERVE!!There are two things you can't do with time....1) You can't recreate time. And......2) You certainly can't travel back in time. That's why today its harder then ever to find vehicles from the past in original condition. This 1970 Ford F-100 is about as original as its going to get for being nearly 48 years old. This is a very rare find and a true barn truck right from the farm. I've included a video from the day we got the vehicle and another vehicle of its current condition and running and driving. As the story goes for this particular truck, it was a farm truck its whole life. The original owner had passed away a few years ago and the wife is finally settling the state. The original owner was born in 1929, purchased this truck in late 1970. The couple lived on a small farm in South Jersey and according to the wife the truck was always left in the barn over night. The used it for farm work and to trailer either a pop up camper or boat to their camp site. ( you'll notice the aftermarket bumper and mirrors used for safer towing). When I arrived at her farm the widow had walked me to the barn and there it was. Covered in years of dirt, dust, hay and whatever else you could imagine from years of storage in a barn. I know the term "barn find" is used loosely anymore, but this truck was its true sense of a barn find.
I was amazed at the condition of the truck as it was so solid and other then the tires, mirrors, radio and bumper (plus normal maintenance) this truck was 100% original. All the panels are solid and straight. Underneath of the truck is as solid as they come. No rot, no holes, no damage. The bed.....the bed was protected most of its life by a bed cap and is in excellent original condition. The body bolt heads aren't even rusty. The truck wouldn't start. Even with a new battery. So we towed it back to the shop where I video'd it the next morning. Most of thedeb-re blew off on the ride back but you can tell from watching the video the truck was sitting for a long time. The wife did tell me she would go out and start it once in awhile or her sons would do so when they visited but she wouldn't drive it because of the no power steering and stick shift.
Once I started to get busy with the truck, I initially installed a new start. And with priming the carburetor the truck started right up. No knocks, taps, smoke, and it sounded so quiet. I notice the carburetor needle wouldn't seat on the float so I rebuilt the carburetor and emptied the old gas, now she runs like a top. The clutch engages fine and it shifts through all the gears as it should. The brakes are just ok, I would go through the brakes before deciding to drive it any distance.
Then I completely cut the paint with a medium grit compound, polished it, then waxed it. I made the paint look the best that I can with the knowledge and tools that I had. You can see in some areas, the previous owner sprayed canned spray paint on some areas of the hood, and touched up a few spots which the video will explain it all. The truck still has 100% of its original paint with about 5% of spray balm on top of some areas. If you're really fussy about removing the spray balm paint, I'm sure there is a way it can be done. I just didn't want to take the chance with my abilities. All the factory seams are perfect, please watch the videos for a lot of the originality to be pointed out. Things you don't see anymore even on restored vehicles.
