You are looking at a true authentic 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback J Code GT 4 speed that was originally Candy Apple Red with Red Interior. WOW!!! This car restored back to original is going to be worth some money, and very fun to do. Its very complete, and it currently runs and drives!
1968 Mustang GT Fastbacks are one of the best things to do with your money. These cars restored correctly will be a valuable asset or investment. This car, being a true GT 4 Speed car, red on red is about as good as it gets. Its going to be a beauty when restored.
This fastback had a 63C interior code which is a standard bench seat. Only 1079 mustang fastbacks in 1968 had a standard bench seat. Making this cars production statistics very rare!!
The Marti Report tells the following about the car:
8T02Jxxxxxx63C Bench Seat (Rare Option for 1968)T Candy Apple Red Paint8D Standard Knit Vinyl Standard Bench Seat28C Build Date March 28th25 Richmond DSO7 3.25 Conventional Rear5 Four Speed Manual Transmission
Car was built with the following Options:- GT Equipment Group- F70x14 White Oval Sidewall Tires- Louvered Hood- AM Radio- Tinted Glass- Remote Control Left Hand Mirror
This car was a beauty when she left the factory and still look good to this day. The color was changed at some point in the cars life from red to the current blue, and the interior was changed from red to the current mix of white and tan, and the bench seat removed and buckets added and a console from a high end car it looks like. Someone customized the car to their liking.
But you can still see all the hints of red on the interior and exterior of the car. But best of all, it still has the body buck tag on the fender apron, original door tag, and the original VIN dash tag under the passenger windshield.
The car does need to be fully restored if you are looking for a show car. The car does currently run and drive and go into all gears. The brakes need work.
The engine is definitely a 302 engine and has a C8ZE 4V intake manifold with a holley carburetor. The 4 Speed toploader with Reverse lockout shifter is also still there. I do not know if the engine is original, so assume its not. If it is, then thats a plus for you.
The rear axle has been upgraded to a 9" rearend, which is much better than the factory 8".
The car has great frame rails front and back, great rockers panels, and is very clean and dry underneath. It will need floor pans, and some exterior sheet metal. Lower doors, lower quarters etc. Typical rust for a mustang but all the parts you want to be good are in excellent shape.
The car does start right up and run and drive. However, its not ready for a road trip. Brakes needs to be redone, has exhaust leak, and the car needs a good tuneup and a good check up.
All of the glass is there and in great shape. All of the interior is here. The car is very complete.
This is a great opportunity to get a true 1968 GT 4 Speed Mustang at a reasonable price. This is a very high end car when done.
