1958 FORD FAIRLANE CONVERTIBLE

After WWII Ford and Chevrolet were in a neck and neck battle every year. In 1958 Ford updated the very popular body style, the 1957 Ford with quad headlights and a Thunderbird type grille and many additional new styling cues. The 1958 Ford did extremely well in sales relative to its competition and continued on with many of its safety features including the deep dish steering wheel. In 1958 Fords were not considered a small car but were 211 inches long and used the V8 engine to propel it for plenty of power. The quad headlights were a nice surprise for night driving. Of course, the most desirable car in the 1958 Ford series was the convertible. By 1958 the hardtop retractable convertible was losing much of its buzz and the 1958 soft top convertible as pictured in this auction was outselling the hardtop by quite a bit.

Here at MissChiTown, we are a marketing service for car collectors who want to have their car presented on eBay in an attractive format. We are also car collectors ourselves and believe that each car is a special package depending on its color, accessories and condition, that make it a unique collector car. The car here in this auction is one of the nicest packages that we have seen in recent times. It is certainly the right color and definitely the right model being a convertible. It has been highly detailed out by its deceased owner. We would like to draw your attention to the convertible top which looks like one of the nicest jobs that we have ever seen on a convertible top. Not a wrinkle or a mismatch can be found on it. The interior is highly attractive and appears to have the same high quality workmanship of the convertible top. The white body and the fender skirts and interior are stunning.

We want to point out that the car currently belongs to the widow who is not a car aficionado so we have some limited information as to the size of the V8 engine. The widow's brother thought it could possibly be an Interceptor engine because the original air cleaner is marked as an Interceptor air cleaner. The car of course does have the safety feature that Ford introduced in 1957 that carried over into 1958 including the deep dish steering wheel. The car does have a four-barrel carburetor.

This car is equipped with power steering, dual exhaust, automatic transmission, chrome valve covers, chrome air cleaner and chrome fan cover. Upgraded exhaust. Fender skirt. Gorgeous new chrome on front and rear bumpers, N.O.S. chrome trim on exterior and the original hubcaps.

Note, the owner kept the original "Interceptor" air cleaner, the original AM radio and face plate and original blue valve covers.

The family tells us that the owner searched for a long time to find a 1958 Ford convertible. This car was found in California. In the last five years or so the car was stripped down to bare metal and was repainted in white. The car is believed to have always been white. See photos that show that the car had almost zero imperfections in the body. The interior appears to have been redone also.

In June, a family member took the car out for about a 20-mile drive. They wanted to make sure that it started up, drove straight and stopped fine. The owner always kept the car on a trickle charger on it and it was garaged the entire time he owned it except when it was being driven. The car drove just the way a 1958 Ford should drive. The mileage appeared to read 96,000-98,000. The VIN starts with G8LC******

The widow would like to see the car in the hands of a new caretaker who will love it the way her husband did for 20+ years. Please note that we do not have a lot of technical details because the owner is deceased. It is obvious that this is one gorgeous car with a body on restoration taken down to bare metal resulting in beautiful paint and chrome and interior and top.

1957 & 1958 Fords are known for their excellent road handling as well as the peppy V8 engines for very nimble acceleration. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a car that is completely and 100% ready to go with high quality refinishing in all areas. We realize that 1958 Ford convertibles are in demand all over the world especial Sweden, New Zealand and we can only suggest that you contact us to assure us that you are a sincere bidder. We prefer all parties inquire via phone 847-774-4857 between 10-10 CST. We are on the road going to car shows and it makes it a lot easier to talk over the phone. We feel that serious parties will make the effort to pick up the phone to discuss.

This is one great looking car in really fine condition and you can bid to win and be happy you did!
