Body/Frame:
This truck has a very straight original body overall. It still has the original paint on it with some patina and minor blemishes. The paint is very shiny and looks great. All but one small piece of trim is still on the truck, there is one small area of rust on the passenger rear cab corner. On both front sides of the bed is a hole where a previous owner obviously had located auxiliary gas tanks in both front corners of the bed. The inside of the bed has surface rust as the paint is worn on the bottom. The Tailgate is very straight and opens and closes well, the hood opens and closes well, the doors open and close good, tool box on passenger side of the bed is solid, all glass is good, chrome and bright trim and grille are all shiny and straight, Front chrome Bumper is excellent, rear camper bumper has been repainted and extends out for accommodating a camper. Camper mirrors are good, weather stripping is brand new around doors. Wheels are very nice repainted with later model Ford hubcaps with mounted radial tires in decent condition. We live in a dry climate so rust is not much of an issue in this area. Overall body in nice shape
Interior:
The seat still has the original material on it, and is covered by a saddle blanket that matches the interior. I peeled it back and there are some tears on the drivers side, so the saddle blanket has been kept on it. The doors are very clean, and we just had new upper door panels replaced. The chrome door handles and window cranks are excellent and all work great. The dashboard is in excellent condition. The speedometer works sporadically - likely the cable. The wipers work, lights work, choke works, lighter works, dash lights work, dome light works and the heating/defroster works. There is hydraulic trailer brake controller mounted under the dash. We have not confirmed that it works, however have no reason to believe it doesn't. The headliner looks original and is in overall good condition. The steering wheel shows some paint wear and the horn ring is excellent, however the horn does not work. The factory AM radio is in the dash works, and the factory speaker must have blown as a previous owner mounted another speaker on top of the dash. The original floor mat is surprisingly pretty nice shape and intact with the only damage really at the gas pedal where your heel sets. Door sills are good.
Drivetrain:
The drivetrain appears to be very original. The motor has a newer fuel pump, battery and cables. It starts right up and idles and runs well. The transmission seems to operate and shift fine. Trans fluid was a little low when we bought it, and was slipping somewhat. Filling the fluid to the correct level seems to make it work as it should, and the fluid is clean and does not smell burnt. However we have not driven the truck much, and the long term health of the tranny cannot be guaranteed - It likely is just fine and I have no reason to believe it's not. The original exhaust system is still on it with the crossover pipe in front of the engine! This truck has very minimal oil leakage out of anything! The brakes are good, it steers as well as expected, and feels very solid.
Overall:
This is a very clean, striking original paint vintage Ford Pickup that looks great, however not a restored or show pickup. You can drive it to the dump during the day, and take it out on a date in the evening! Do not expect a perfect body or a perfect truck as this has been used as it was meant to be, however it has been well taken care of. It is 53 years old, may need some TLC, but overall a very solid good looking truck!
