Introduced in late 1908, Henry Ford’s Model T was by 1912, the most popular car in America. Alwayslooking for ways to improve quality, and more importantly, improve quantity, his development of themoving assembly line for the automotive industry was genius. According to engine serial numbers a totalof 94,662 Model T’s were produced during the 1912 model year. The Torpedo Runabout saw a total of13,376 copies produced with prices running about $590, FOB Detroit. Simple mechanics, top qualitymaterials and a real car at a low price helped Henry build an empire.

Proving that not all Model T’s were paint black, this Runabout has been restored in dark blue, which wasthe only color officially available for that model year. The engine has been restored and is reported tostart rather easily, no more than two or three tugs on the hand-cranks at most. Helping the car to runright is an J&B Co. Master Vibrator Coil Magneto. This “T” for three is fitted with a pair of Ford scriptGray & Davis gas headlights plus a pair of cowl lamps, all polished to deep reflective quality as is thebrass radiator shell. The black diamond tufted leather seat is supple and inviting, while the blackColonial grain top material looks new and fits the bows just as it did when produced 100+ years ago. Onthe wood spoke wheels is a set of white rubber tires. The engine was apparently assembled in January1912 and was most likely installed in a car within a few weeks. One of the most unique features of thiscar is the “Mother-In-Law” seat fitted to the deck behind the front passenger compartment.

With a reported top speed of 45 miles per hour, this Runabout would the perfect car for an historic tour, parades or to become involved your favorite vintage car collectors group. Having been stored in aclimate controlled museum-like facility since its restoration has insured this Runabout is the perfect “T”for you.
