1978 Ford Other

Selling our all original 1978 Ford Country Squire. For the last 7 years this wagon has been our summertime fun and road trip vehicle. It has been to Maine, Maryland, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, all over NY and NJ and in the span of two summers, completed all of Route 66 (Chicago, IL - Santa Monica, CA). The wagon runs and drives excellent, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere, and we have!
Everything works as it should and over the last 6 years, here's what we've replaced or upgraded:
  • Master Cylinder
  • Brake Booster
  • Front Rotors
  • Front and Rear Brake Pads
  • AC Pump and Condenser, converted to R134
  • Vibration Damper
  • Water Pump
  • Carburetor
  • Battery - 5/16
  • Alternator
  • Upper and Lower Ball Joints
  • Dual Exhaust (Walker - not loud at all, but increased gas mileage by 1.5 mpg highway)
  • Rear Window Motor
  • Radio - Classic Instruments AM/FM with USB Plug
  • Crager SS and BF Goodrich Radials (approximately 15,000 miles on tires and rims)
The Country Squire sports its original everything! The paint still shines brilliantly and people cannot believe that it has not been repainted. It's not perfect however, it has a few scratches, chips and there are a few spots, where the paint is a little worn from polishing and waxing these last 38+ years. I just couldn't see repainting the wagon for a few minor imperfections and and losing the originality. The chrome on the bumpers look amazing, there are two small scratches on the front and rear bumpers. The rest of the chrome looks great and shines brightly as well. They are not very noticeable and wouldn't show up on a picture, but I want to give everyone full disclosure. The interior is impeccable as well, no tears, rips or cracks in the seats, dash, headliner, anywhere! The carpet is in great shape as well.
I added the original Country Squire seats to rear cargo area. This was my son's domain for many a road trip and I added a hidden (under the seat) power port for his video gaming. I also matched and added carpet for the rear area to complete the look and give the whole area a finished look. I picked up an original and very rare 1974 dealer option Ford checker board, which I used for display purposes when I entered the wagon in car shows. It won Best in Class at several Ford car shows in NJ and always drew more attention than either our Model A hot rod or our Mustang.
The vacuum headlights work when the car is running, but it looses pressure when the ignition is turned off. I am pretty certain that it's a vacuum line, as they are all original, but just don't have the time to replace them. This is a simple fix and the vacuum hose is relatively inexpensive.
In addition to the Ford checker board, included with the sale are the original rims, tire and hubcaps, as well as a car cover.
We purchased the Country Squire from the original owner, who was 78 when we purchased the wagon from him. He stated that he never had it out in winter and I believe him, as the undercarriage is spotless with not one sign or spot of rust. The original factory applied rust proofing is still evident on the firewall and engine compartment. The kids are older now and it's time for someone else to enjoy the wagon as much as we have. The Country Squire is in storage right now just outside of Buffalo, NY, I welcome anyone to come inspect the wagon, as I am sure you will not be disappointed. Good luck and happy bidding!
