The world of pickup trucks!
Today many collectors are branching out from collecting post war cars into collecting post war pickup trucks. Some of the post-war pickup trucks are very iconic and are considered to be more historically important then some others. One of the trucks that fall into this category is the 1947 Ford one-ton pickup. It is a little larger all around then the half ton and is certainly more impressive with its look of critical “mass”. Very few of these trucks were made right after the war as most of the pickup trucks were half-ton trucks. To find one of these trucks in any condition is unusual but to find one in very nice restored condition is like finding a needle in a haystack.
The stake bed truck that you see in this ad is a 1947 one-ton pickup with the overload springs that carry up to 5000 pounds but still gives a smooth ride when the truck is not loaded at all. For truck collectors the one-ton truck is the one to have and is still highly mobile and maneuverable but yet has that extra big look to it that really captures attention! There are production numbers for the 1947 one-ton pickup truck but always thought that there were very few produced and those that were produced were used for heavy hauling and usually run into the ground. Just take a look at this truck and you will know that it is the real exception to the rule in terms of cosmetic and running condition as it is in one beautiful truck.
We at MissChiTown are car collectors ourselves and have always been fascinated with unusual collector trucks. The truck in this auction is unique in the sense that it is a ‘stake bed’ truck. It is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition and has less then 2000 miles on the odometer since the restoration. The private seller would not commit to a buy it now price but he did indicate that he would consider an offer of $11075.00 so if this price interests you give us a call at 847-774-4857 to discuss and we will try to help you and the private seller come to an agreement.
We would like to share information directly from current owner.
What a beautiful truck with an older restoration that was done by the previous owner. Current owner purchased the truck five years ago from the previous owner’s estate so cannot offer a lot of details on the restoration. Seller purchased the truck for sentimental reasons because his grandfather owned a truck like this when he was a young guy and he would help his grandfather on the farm. Seller says this truck only has 1610 miles on the odometer (as the odometer was most likely reset at time of restoration and therefore actual mileage is not known). The truck has been kept garaged since the restoration both by the previous owner and himself. The seller said he drives the truck up and down his private road but has probably not put 100 miles on the truck since he has owned it.
The beautiful green paint compliments the gorgeous wood perfectly. The flathead V8 Ford engine appears to have been rebuilt at time of restoration. The truck has a 3-speed on the floor transmission. Ford hubcaps look like original style. Heater works.
The seller has provided many photos showing the underside which appears to be in very nice condition. The seller said the cab portion of the truck is metal.
The overload springs are heavy duty for hauling. The title says that the weight capacity is 5000. The VIN number starts off with 71GY3 (5 digit sequence number). The heater works and the dash has a choke and throttle. Always stored in garage since restored.
If you are a car collector and have been thinking about getting into the world of trucks or currently collect trucks and want something that is very impressive then the 1947 Ford one-ton pickup is about as iconic as they get for the post-war trucks! This is a truck that you can bid on with confidence and to top that off the reserve is extremely reasonable.
