1974 Dodge Challenger R/T Tribute

By 1974, the muscle car era was all but over, but someone forgot to give the news to the guys over at Mopar. Standing as a low production year for the E-body Challenger, this super-cool Sublime Green 1974 Dodge Challenger R/T Tribute hardtop sports a powerful 440 Six-Pack under the hood and a classic, high-impact Mopar muscle look. If you wanted a freshly restored muscle car with true performance DNA running through its veins, this dialed-in Dodge Challenger is a fine example.
This cool Challenger was beautifully painted in a spectacular Sublime Green finish, finished to such a high standard we're almost tempted to use the word 'perfect'. And it's that darn nice underneath, too. The Chrysler E-bodies seem to look best in high-visibility colors, which emphasize their classic long nose and short deck proportions, and when you hear this one run, the only possible color it could wear is that trademark bright green. This later Challengers received cool details like a performance Shaker hood with ram-air type scoops, rear white bumble stripes that were painted on and cleared over, a blacked-out rear spoiler, and a matching black tail panel with large rectangular taillights, tying it to the past but giving it a look all their own. Up front there's a revised grille with turned-down corners that ties it together with a secondary grille beneath the smooth 1970-style bumper. The chrome appears to be new and is extremely nice with no dings or dents in either of the bumpers, and the stainless trim running the length of the body is excellent. Man, what a nice Mopar!
Inside, the white vinyl bucket seat interior appears to be largely new stuff and it's in excellent shape showing almost no wear. Obviously, things like the seat covers, door panels, and carpets are fresh, and the woodgrained applique on the gauge bezel and pistol-grip shifter is still bright and clear. A full array of gauges lives just beyond the original style steering wheel – including temperature, voltage, oil pressure, fuel level, and a tachometer - and they're all in crisp and bright shape, ready to provide the driver with all of the engine's vitals. There' no center console, so that highly sought-after pistol-grip shifter does all the talking in the cabin, although an upgraded Kenwood AM/FM/CD/AUX unit provides great entertainment as well. The black carpets are plush, the door panels are crisp and clean, and the headliner up top is very taut, further proof that nothing was overlooked during this comprehensive build. Out back, the trunk is very spacious, and the entire compartment has been finished with matching high-impact paint and is protected by a reproduction mat, so it's just as ready to show off as the rest of the car.
A powerful 440 V8 lives under the hood of this monster, augmented by aluminum heads and a trio of 2-barrel carburetors affectionately known as the legendary "Six Pack." It's fully rebuilt and highly detailed for show, from the Hemi Orange paint and Mopar Performance valve covers, to the killer Shaker hood assembly up top that proudly advertises the induction system underneath, to the factory intake that was painted to match. Managing all that added power is a quick-shifting 4-speed manual transmission, that feels fantastic in the hand of the driver via the pistol-grip shifter. Power steering and power front disc brakes are great options, and a set of ceramic-coated Hedman headers feed a Flowmaster dual exhaust system with dual chromed tips under the rear bumper, one of the R/T's defining features. It sounds AWESOME. The incredibly detailed chassis is spectacular with body-colored floors, immaculately detailed chassis components, a new gas tank, and the perfect factory stance. It sits on a set of flashy chrome wheels wearing staggered 225/70/15 front and 275/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A white-letter radials; appropriate because the R/T was one of the first production cars to offer staggered tires from the factory.
Handsome, fast, and stylish, this Challenger is an excellent opportunity to pick up a restored car with all the looks of some of the most valuable muscle cars of all time, but for a fraction of the price. With a potent big block under the hood, it's plenty fast, too. Give us a call today!
